Freight Terms: What the Written Engagement Covers

Binding terms are issued in writing for each engagement. This page lists the topics those terms address, so you know what to look for before appointing a shipment.

What the written terms address

The wording, limits and jurisdiction are set in the engagement documents, not on this page.

Appointment and scope

  • How a shipment or standing arrangement is appointed in writing
  • Which services the written scope includes: planning, booking support, appointed pickup or delivery
  • Partners (carriers, brokers, warehouses, agents) that perform legs, and that their sites are not Anxin-owned facilities
  • A website enquiry is not an appointment or an acceptance of cargo

Information and documents

  • The customer's duty to describe the cargo, configuration and condition accurately
  • Anxin reviews supplied documents; it does not issue UN 38.3 test summaries or SDS
  • Effect of incomplete or late information: delays, re-quotes or no booking

Quotes, fees and payment

  • Quote validity and what each quote includes and excludes
  • Surcharges, currency, payment timing, duties and taxes
  • Storage, inspection and repacking confirmed separately in writing

Changes, cancellation and refusal

  • Changes to cargo, route, packing or documents after a quote
  • Cancellation and amendment charges as set in the engagement
  • The right to decline or stop when acceptance is unavailable or the rules cannot be met

Liability and insurance

  • Forwarder liability limits under the contract and applicable law
  • Optional cargo insurance, which is separate from forwarder liability
  • Arranging insurance, when appointed, is not underwriting by Anxin

Claims and disputes

  • Notice periods and the evidence needed for a claim
  • Governing law and forum as stated in the engagement
  • Relationship to the website terms and the privacy notice

  1. China origin
    • Pickup or delivery into the origin port area
    • Export declaration in China
    • Origin terminal / CFS handling
  2. Main carriage
    • Ocean freight China → Destination
    • DG and other carrier surcharges
    • Any transshipment named in the quote
  3. Destination port
    • Terminal handling and delivery order
    • DG handling at discharge
    • Storage after free time
  4. Import clearance
    • Filing with destination customs
    • Duties and taxes
    • Importer of record and broker
  5. Final delivery
    • Trucking within the destination country
    • Named address and unloading
    • Only when quoted
