This route runs out of Dalian, the north-east's gateway on the Yellow Sea, then follows a Bab el-Mandeb and Suez passage into the Mediterranean; at the far end is a port where the terminal system decides segregation and stacking for each class 9 box.
The Greek side adds EMPA registration to the EU battery rules. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.
What we need to start
Route profile
North-east China's battery gateway at Dayaowan, with a small but growing lithium export flow, a local MSA that has named misdeclaration as its main problem, and both winter ice and spring fog.
Mediterranean services are the ones most likely to use Suez again (57% in September 2026), which puts the cargo back through Bab el-Mandeb, rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat.

Where this route gets difficult
Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Piraeus and the Greece market.
Sea fog is one of the main marine hazards of the Yellow and Bohai Seas according to the China Meteorological Administration, concentrated between April and July and with a serious effect on shipping. A vessel held at anchor by fog can arrive late enough to push a box beyond the sailing its documents name.
What Anxin does: In the fog season we avoid tight stuffing-to-cut-off gaps and keep the filing data ready to amend if the vessel changes.
The Bohai Sea and the northern Yellow Sea freeze every winter. For 2021/22 China's marine forecast centre expected floating ice around 15 nautical miles offshore in the northern Yellow Sea, where Dayaowan is, and around 60 in Liaodong Bay, with the peak between mid-January and mid-February.
What Anxin does: For January–February sailings from Dalian we allow extra time between stuffing and the DG cut-off and reconfirm the vessel schedule the week before loading.
Services that avoid the Red Sea, 43% of the Mediterranean total, go round the Cape of Good Hope and re-enter through Gibraltar. SAMSA estimates that about 200 of the 576 containers lost at sea in 2024, 35% of the total, went overboard near the Cape.
What Anxin does: On Cape sailings we apply the CINS blocking and bracing checks strictly on stuffing photos before sealing.
Piraeus Container Terminal wants dangerous goods notified to its Department of Environment and Port Services at least 24 hours before the ship arrives, with a multimodal dangerous goods form to IMDG standards, the terminal's own DG spreadsheet and, for units in transit, the IMO dangerous cargo manifest.
What Anxin does: We make sure the multimodal dangerous goods form from the shipper is complete and matches the booking before loading in Dalian, since the Piraeus file is built from it.
Greece keeps battery producers in EOAN's National Producers Register (EMPA), and registration comes before the first sale. A producer without a Greek establishment appoints a local authorised representative by signed mandate, using the template in the EMPA manual, and then contracts with an approved collective system.
What Anxin does: We ask the Greek consignee who is registered as producer in EMPA before booking.

Documents & compliance
These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Dalian filings, the carrier booking and the Greece import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation

Questions
Through a Greek authorised representative appointed by written mandate, who registers it in EOAN's National Producers Register (EMPA) before sales start.
Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.
Sea ice forms every winter in the northern Yellow Sea; in 2021/22 it was forecast to reach about 15 nautical miles out there, peaking mid-January to mid-February. We plan extra time for those weeks.
