This route runs through Dayaowan, where Liaoning's first JT/T 1543 lithium export sailed in May 2025, then follows a long Europe voyage extended through the Danish straits into the Baltic; at the far end is a port where dangerous goods are declared in the National Single Window a day before arrival.

The Polish side adds the BDO number to the EU battery rules. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

  • Dalian Dayaowan export
  • Winter ice & spring fog
  • Polish-language safety information
  • Consignee EORI
  • EU declaration of conformity

Route profile

What sets Dalian → Gdynia apart

Origin port

Dalian (Dayaowan)

North-east China's battery gateway at Dayaowan, with a small but growing lithium export flow, a local MSA that has named misdeclaration as its main problem, and both winter ice and spring fog.

Destination port

Gdańsk / Gdynia

Dangerous goods declared through Poland's National Single Window 24 hours before arrival, with the harbour master's consent and conditions for handling.

Where this route gets difficult

5 pain points from Dalian to Gdynia

Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Gdynia and the Poland market.

  1. Origin port

Misdeclaration is the problem Dalian's MSA names first

Dayaowan MSA reported in April 2024 that omissions and misdeclarations of lithium battery cargo were frequent because the rules are complex. Its answer was a dedicated desk and hotline, priority handling for EV batteries, and AI comparison of documents to cut down container openings: a comparison that flags any gap between the declaration and the paperwork behind it.

What Anxin does: We reconcile the UN number, classification, packing group, quantity and SDS across every document before filing, which is exactly what an automated comparison will test.

  2. Sea corridor

The Danish straits and a possible feeder change

Every box for Gdynia passes the Danish straits, where IMO recommends pilotage on Route T for ships with a draught of 11 m or more and the Danish Maritime Authority reports non-compliant ships to their flag state. If the container is moved to a feeder at a North Sea port, that second vessel must also accept the UN numbers.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and the feeder operator on the booking and confirm DG acceptance for that leg as well as the mainline.

  3. Destination port

National Single Window declaration and the harbour master's conditions

In the ports supervised by the Maritime Office in Gdynia, the dangerous goods on an arriving ship are declared through the National Single Window at least 24 hours ahead, or on departure from the previous port on a short leg, which is common for Baltic feeders. The harbour master then gives consent and sets conditions for entry and handling.

What Anxin does: Because most Chinese cargo reaches Gdynia by feeder, we check the DG data are final before the mainline ship leaves Dalian, so the feeder's declaration is not built on a draft.

  4. Import country

The ICS2 entry summary is due before loading in Dalian

Sea cargo for the EU needs a complete Entry Summary Declaration under ICS2 Release 3, and for deep-sea containers it is due 24 hours before loading at the departure port. Carriers apply 'no manifest, no load', and a filing without a valid EORI number is rejected, so a data gap in Dalian leaves the box on the quay.

What Anxin does: We collect the consignee's EORI number, an HS-level goods description and the house-bill parties at booking, and make sure the party filing the ENS has them before the Dalian cut-off.

  5. Import country

Annex V testing for stationary energy storage

Stationary battery energy storage systems placed on the EU market since 18 August 2024 must be safe in normal operation, with technical documentation showing tests against the Annex V parameters, including thermal shock, short-circuit protection, over-discharge and thermal propagation. ESS buyers in Poland increasingly ask for that file before delivery.

What Anxin does: For ESS cabinets and racks bound for Poland we ask the manufacturer to confirm that the Annex V test documentation exists before booking and note the answer in the shipment file.

Send the file once, complete

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Dalian filings, the carrier booking and the Poland import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Dalian → Gdynia: questions we are asked

The CE marking on the battery and the manufacturer's EU declaration of conformity, which must be available in the language Poland requires. Both have applied since 18 August 2024.

Often, but it depends on the service. The Baltic is reached through the Danish straits, and we ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and confirm DG acceptance for each vessel.

Dayaowan MSA reported in 2024 that omissions and misdeclarations of lithium battery cargo were frequent because the rules are complex, and it uses AI document comparison. Consistent data across the declaration, SDS and packing documents is the main defence.
