Where this route gets difficult

5 points to plan for on the Dalian → Barcelona route

  1. Origin port

    Winter sea ice near Dayaowan

    The Bohai Sea and the northern Yellow Sea freeze every winter. For 2021/22 China's marine forecast centre expected floating ice around 15 nautical miles offshore in the northern Yellow Sea, where Dayaowan is, and around 60 in Liaodong Bay, with the peak between mid-January and mid-February.

    What Anxin does: For January–February sailings from Dalian we allow extra time between stuffing and the DG cut-off and reconfirm the vessel schedule the week before loading.

  2. Sea corridor

    Suez itself is working normally

    The JMIC's September 2026 update rated the northern Red Sea and Suez Canal MODERATE, with the canal operating in both directions and container lines returning selectively, and the Eastern Mediterranean LOW. The risk on this corridor is concentrated at the southern entrance of the Red Sea rather than at the canal.

    What Anxin does: We check before each booking whether the service has changed routing since the last quote.

  3. Destination port

    A pickup authorisation from the Port Authority and Capitanía

    To collect a dangerous-goods container in Barcelona, the consignee's agent needs a valid authorisation issued by the Port Authority together with the Capitanía Marítima, requested from the port's dangerous goods department. It states its validity and safety conditions, and an expired one has to be replaced before the truck can collect.

    What Anxin does: We ask the Barcelona importer to have its agent request the authorisation before the ship arrives, and send the agent the DG declaration and packing list as soon as the vessel sails from Dalian.

  4. Import country

    CE marking and a declaration of conformity in the right language

    The importer in Spain carries the check: CE marking on the battery and an EU declaration of conformity, translated into the language Spain asks for, have both been required since 18 August 2024 for batteries entering the EU market.

    What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer in China for the declaration of conformity and a photo of the CE marking on the battery or its packaging before loading, and pass them to the Spain importer. We check that the documents exist and match the goods; we do not assess conformity.

  5. Import country

    Battery label from August 2026, QR code from February 2027

    The Battery Regulation's general information label applies from 18 August 2026 (or 18 months after the label implementing act, if later), and every battery needs a QR code from 18 February 2027, linked to a battery passport for EV, LMT and industrial batteries above 2 kWh. Where the battery is too small, both go on the packaging and accompanying documents.

    What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Spain importer to confirm the battery category and whether the label and QR-code elements are already on the goods, and compare carton photos with that answer.
