This route runs from the Pearl River Delta via Nansha, then follows a long Europe voyage extended through the Danish straits into the Baltic; at the far end is the port of Pori.

Finland keeps its battery producers in a national register at the Finnish Supervisory Agency. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Nansha export
  • Dongguan–Nansha one-box
  • Finnish producer register entry
  • Finnish and Swedish safety information
  • Consignee EORI

Route profile

The Guangzhou → Pori route in brief

Origin port

Guangzhou (Nansha)

Pearl River Delta battery cargo through Nansha, where a September 2026 agreement lets Dongguan-inspected containers load without a second MSA check, and where typhoon season runs June to October.

Import country

Finland

Registration in the Finnish Supervisory Agency's producer register, a Finnish authorised representative for distance sellers, and EU importer duties such as CE marking and the importer's details on the battery.

Where this route gets difficult

5 points to plan for on the Guangzhou → Pori route

In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Pori and at customs in Finland.

  1. Origin port

Pearl River typhoon season and rolled boxes

The tropical cyclone season in the region runs from June to October according to the Hong Kong Observatory, with July to September the busiest months. At Nansha, on the Pearl River mouth, a gate closure or a vessel change sends the DG filings and the packing certificate after the box to its new sailing.

What Anxin does: From June to October we leave slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off at Nansha and refile quickly if the vessel changes.

  2. Sea corridor

Finnish winter traffic restrictions and ice class

Each winter Finland's Transport Infrastructure Agency restricts traffic to its ports so that only ships of a given ice class and deadweight receive icebreaker assistance; exemption requests are due three working days before arrival at the latest, and Baltic restrictions appear on baltice.org. During the restriction period a feeder lacking the ice class may be refused at Pori.

What Anxin does: For winter shipments we check the restrictions in force on baltice.org for Pori and ask the carrier to confirm that the final feeder has the required ice class before we book.

  3. Import country

The truck leg out of Pori runs under ADR

Road delivery from Pori is an ADR movement, because the EU applies ADR to domestic journeys through Directive 2008/68/EC. For UN 3480 that means class 9, transport category 2 and tunnel code (E), which restricts the route through category E tunnels; batteries found damaged at unloading move to special provision 376 packing (P908 or P911).

What Anxin does: We give the Finland haulier the same UN number, class and package details that appear on the sea dangerous goods declaration, so the ADR transport document matches the container paperwork from Guangzhou.

  4. Import country

Battery label from August 2026, QR code from February 2027

The Battery Regulation's general information label applies from 18 August 2026 (or 18 months after the label implementing act, if later), and every battery needs a QR code from 18 February 2027, linked to a battery passport for EV, LMT and industrial batteries above 2 kWh. Where the battery is too small, both go on the packaging and accompanying documents.

What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Finland importer to confirm the battery category and whether the label and QR-code elements are already on the goods, and compare carton photos with that answer.

  5. Import country

Annex V testing for stationary energy storage

Stationary battery energy storage systems placed on the EU market since 18 August 2024 must be safe in normal operation, with technical documentation showing tests against the Annex V parameters, including thermal shock, short-circuit protection, over-discharge and thermal propagation. ESS buyers in Finland increasingly ask for that file before delivery.

What Anxin does: For ESS cabinets and racks bound for Finland we ask the manufacturer to confirm that the Annex V test documentation exists before booking and note the answer in the shipment file.

Documents & compliance

Checklist for Guangzhou → Pori

These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

At the Guangzhou end

  • Transport-condition classification report where applicable
  • Load plan showing even weight distribution (no more than 60% of the cargo weight in either half of the container length)
  • EU declaration of conformity and CE marking photo from the manufacturer
  • Importer name, trade name and postal address printed on battery or packaging
  • Annex V safety documentation confirmed for stationary storage systems

For the carrier and the voyage

  • Transhipment port, feeder operator and feeder DG acceptance named on the booking
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)
  • Lithium battery mark (SP188 cargo) or class 9 labels and placards

For the importer in Finland

  • Label and QR-code status against the August 2026 and February 2027 dates

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Guangzhou filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Finland before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Pori.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Common questions on the Guangzhou → Pori route

The importer's: name, registered trade name or trade mark and postal address with a contact point, on the battery or, if it is too small, on the packaging or accompanying document.

Yes, but in the restriction period only ships of the required ice class and deadweight receive icebreaker assistance. Finland's agency publishes the restrictions on baltice.org, with exemption requests due at least three working days before arrival.

Nansha MSA has recommended around 25% for ESS batteries and measures against accidental activation. Treat it as the local authority's recommendation; the carrier's own acceptance conditions also apply.
