From Lianyungang to Limassol, cargo moves through Lianyungang port, crosses a Suez corridor that Mediterranean services are using again more than any other Asia–Europe lane, and is discharged at the port of Limassol.

Cyprus applies the EU Battery Regulation, starting with registration in its own national producer register. This page sets out 6 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

  • Fog season Apr–Jul
  • Lianyungang export
  • National producer registration
  • EU declaration of conformity

Route profile

The Lianyungang → Limassol route in brief

Sea corridor

Asia – Mediterranean via Suez

Mediterranean services are the ones most likely to use Suez again (57% in September 2026), which puts the cargo back through Bab el-Mandeb, rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat.

Where this route gets difficult

6 pain points from Lianyungang to Limassol

Listed from loading in Lianyungang to import into Cyprus, each with what we do about it.

  1. Origin port

Yellow Sea fog from April to July

The China Meteorological Administration describes sea fog as a major marine hazard in the Yellow and Bohai Seas, mainly from April to July. At Lianyungang, as at Qingdao, fog can hold vessels at anchor, and a changed vessel means amended DG filings.

What Anxin does: In fog season we keep slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off and have the filing data ready to amend.

  2. Origin port

Energy storage on break-bulk ships: Lianyungang's own rules

Lianyungang MSA's June 2025 guide for ESS on break-bulk ships treats ESS cabinets as UN3480 and ESS containers as UN3536, recommends a remaining charge of 20–50%, and requires converters and monitoring to be powered off, series and parallel circuits disconnected, packages evenly spread with a low centre of gravity, and a safety meeting before the ship arrives.

What Anxin does: For ESS units we confirm the UN number the unit ships under, get the state of charge and isolation steps in writing from the manufacturer, and join the pre-arrival safety meeting with the stowage details.

  3. Sea corridor

If the service goes round Africa instead

The 43% of Mediterranean services not using the Red Sea sail round the Cape of Good Hope, then back through Gibraltar. SAMSA estimates about 200 of the 576 containers lost at sea in 2024 went overboard near the Cape, 35% of the year's total.

What Anxin does: On Cape sailings we apply the CINS blocking and bracing checks strictly on stuffing photos before sealing.

  4. Import country

CE marking and a declaration of conformity in the right language

Since 18 August 2024 a battery sold in the EU needs the CE marking and an EU declaration of conformity from its manufacturer. The declaration has to be available in the language Cyprus requires, and the importer is the one who must check both before the goods are released for sale.

What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer in China for the declaration of conformity and a photo of the CE marking on the battery or its packaging before loading, and pass them to the Cyprus importer. We check that the documents exist and match the goods; we do not assess conformity.

  5. Import country

The truck leg out of Limassol runs under ADR

Road delivery from Limassol is an ADR movement, because the EU applies ADR to domestic journeys through Directive 2008/68/EC. For UN 3480 that means class 9, transport category 2 and tunnel code (E), which restricts the route through category E tunnels; batteries found damaged at unloading move to special provision 376 packing (P908 or P911).

What Anxin does: We give the Cyprus haulier the same UN number, class and package details that appear on the sea dangerous goods declaration, so the ADR transport document matches the container paperwork from Lianyungang.

  6. Import country

Instructions and safety information in the language of Cyprus

Importers must make sure batteries come with instructions and safety information in a language end-users in Cyprus easily understand, as that Member State decides. Printed inserts and carton text are far easier to change before the goods are packed in China.

What Anxin does: We ask the importer which language Cyprus requires and check carton and insert photos against it before loading.

Documents & compliance

Checklist for Lianyungang → Limassol

Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

Before loading in Lianyungang

  • For ESS: UN3480 or UN3536 confirmed, state of charge and circuit isolation stated in writing
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing
  • Transport-condition classification report where applicable
  • Load plan showing even weight distribution (no more than 60% of the cargo weight in either half of the container length)
  • EU declaration of conformity and CE marking photo from the manufacturer

Carrier and voyage

  • Routing (Red Sea or Cape) and any war-risk surcharge stated on the booking
  • Lithium battery mark (SP188 cargo) or class 9 labels and placards
  • Condition statement: new, used, damaged/defective (SP376) or for recycling (SP377)

For the importer in Cyprus

Before you book

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Lianyungang export filings, the carrier booking and the Cyprus import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Lianyungang → Limassol: questions we are asked

The CE marking on the battery and the manufacturer's EU declaration of conformity, which must be available in the language Cyprus requires. Both have applied since 18 August 2024.

Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.

Its June 2025 break-bulk ESS guide recommends 20–50% remaining charge, with converters and monitoring off and circuits disconnected.
