From Lianyungang to Damietta, cargo moves through Lianyungang port, crosses a Suez corridor that Mediterranean services are using again more than any other Asia–Europe lane, and is discharged at the port of Damietta.

On the Egyptian side the ACI system needs the exporter on CargoX and the documents uploaded before the ship arrives. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.

What we need to start

  • Fog season Apr–Jul
  • Lianyungang export
  • ACID number on the B/L
  • Exporter verified on CargoX
  • Importers Register entry (GOEIC)

Route profile

The Lianyungang → Damietta route in brief

Origin port

Lianyungang

Jiangsu's Yellow Sea port, with a simplified document list for 'new three' cargo since 2024 and its own guide for energy-storage units on break-bulk ships.

Import country

Egypt

Egypt's ACI system starts in China: no ACID on the bill of lading means the box is not unloaded.

Where this route gets difficult

Where Lianyungang → Damietta shipments get held up: 5 points

Listed from loading in Lianyungang to import into Egypt, each with what we do about it.

  1. Origin port

A shorter document list at Lianyungang, not a shorter check

Lianyungang MSA's Notice No. 1 of 2024 cut the materials for 'new three' cargo to four on the cargo side: the safe-carriage declaration, the inspector-signed packing certificate, the packaging inspection certificate where packaged, and a power of attorney. Fewer papers means each one carries more weight; the packing certificate still has to be signed by a certified inspector after supervised stuffing.

What Anxin does: We prepare the four cargo-side documents together and check that the packing certificate, the packaging certificate and the declaration describe the same UN numbers and quantities.

  2. Origin port

Energy storage on break-bulk ships: Lianyungang's own rules

Lianyungang MSA's June 2025 guide for ESS on break-bulk ships treats ESS cabinets as UN3480 and ESS containers as UN3536, recommends a remaining charge of 20–50%, and requires converters and monitoring to be powered off, series and parallel circuits disconnected, packages evenly spread with a low centre of gravity, and a safety meeting before the ship arrives.

What Anxin does: For ESS units we confirm the UN number the unit ships under, get the state of charge and isolation steps in writing from the manufacturer, and join the pre-arrival safety meeting with the stowage details.

  3. Sea corridor

The canal is open; the risk sits further south

The JMIC's September 2026 update put the northern Red Sea and the Suez Canal at MODERATE, with two-way transits and container lines selectively returning, and the Eastern Mediterranean at LOW. On this corridor the exposure lies at the southern entrance of the Red Sea, not at the canal itself.

What Anxin does: We check before each booking whether the service has changed routing since the last quote.

  4. Import country

No ACID on the bill of lading, no unloading

Egypt's Advance Cargo Information system needs a 19-digit ACID number, obtained by the Egyptian importer on Nafeza before the cargo leaves Lianyungang, on every shipping document including the bill of lading. Customs' own guidance is blunt: bills of lading without an ACID are not unloaded, and the goods are re-shipped out of Egypt at the carrier's expense.

What Anxin does: We do not release a booking for Damietta until the importer has sent the ACID number, and we check it appears on the bill of lading draft, invoice and packing list.

  5. Import country

Broker authorised through Nafeza before arrival

Egyptian customs accepts a broker for a private importer only with a power of attorney registered at the Real Estate Registry or an e-authorisation on Nafeza, required by Customs Law No. 207 of 2020.

What Anxin does: We ask the importer which broker will clear the container and whether its Nafeza authorisation is in place before the ship arrives.

Documents & compliance

Documents to line up for Lianyungang → Damietta

These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

At the Lianyungang end

  • The four cargo-side documents under Lianyungang MSA Notice 2024 No. 1 prepared together and cross-checked
  • For ESS: UN3480 or UN3536 confirmed, state of charge and circuit isolation stated in writing
  • Transport-condition classification report where applicable
  • Load plan showing even weight distribution (no more than 60% of the cargo weight in either half of the container length)
  • ACID number from the importer, printed on B/L draft, invoice and packing list

For the shipping line

  • Routing (Red Sea or Cape) and any war-risk surcharge stated on the booking
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)

At the Egypt end

  • Broker's power of attorney or Nafeza e-authorisation
  • Importers Register status (GOEIC)

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Lianyungang export filings, the carrier booking and the Egypt import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Questions about shipping from Lianyungang to Damietta

Register and be verified on CargoX, then upload the invoice, bill of lading, packing list and certificate of origin at least 48 hours before the vessel arrives.

Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.

Under its Notice No. 1 of 2024, the cargo side submits the DG safe-carriage declaration, the inspector-signed packing certificate, the packaging inspection certificate where the goods are packaged, and a power of attorney.
