Yellow Sea · Malacca Strait · Indian Ocean · Bab-el-Mandeb · Suez Canal · Strait of Gibraltar · English Channel · Danish Straits
From Lianyungang to Gdynia, cargo moves through Lianyungang port, crosses a Suez-or-Cape voyage that ends with the Danish straits and the Baltic, and is discharged at a Baltic port where the harbour master sets conditions for handling each dangerous-goods cargo.
The Polish side adds the BDO number to the EU battery rules. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.
What we need to start
Route profile
Jiangsu's Yellow Sea port, with a simplified document list for 'new three' cargo since 2024 and its own guide for energy-storage units on break-bulk ships.
Dangerous goods declared through Poland's National Single Window 24 hours before arrival, with the harbour master's consent and conditions for handling.

Where this route gets difficult
They run from the Lianyungang terminal through the voyage to Gdynia and the Poland import file.
The China Meteorological Administration describes sea fog as a major marine hazard in the Yellow and Bohai Seas, mainly from April to July. At Lianyungang, as at Qingdao, fog can hold vessels at anchor, and a changed vessel means amended DG filings.
What Anxin does: In fog season we keep slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off and have the filing data ready to amend.
Lianyungang MSA's June 2025 guide for ESS on break-bulk ships treats ESS cabinets as UN3480 and ESS containers as UN3536, recommends a remaining charge of 20–50%, and requires converters and monitoring to be powered off, series and parallel circuits disconnected, packages evenly spread with a low centre of gravity, and a safety meeting before the ship arrives.
What Anxin does: For ESS units we confirm the UN number the unit ships under, get the state of charge and isolation steps in writing from the manufacturer, and join the pre-arrival safety meeting with the stowage details.
Up to the Danish straits the voyage matches North Europe's: Sea-Intelligence put Red Sea routing at 27% for North Europe services in September 2026, so most containers still sail round the Cape of Good Hope, where SAMSA estimates about 35% of the containers lost in 2024 went overboard.
What Anxin does: We quote the Suez and Cape routings separately when both are offered and apply the CINS stuffing checks strictly on Cape sailings.
In the ports supervised by the Maritime Office in Gdynia, the dangerous goods on an arriving ship are declared through the National Single Window at least 24 hours ahead, or on departure from the previous port on a short leg, which is common for Baltic feeders. The harbour master then gives consent and sets conditions for entry and handling.
What Anxin does: Because most Chinese cargo reaches Gdynia by feeder, we check the DG data are final before the mainline ship leaves Lianyungang, so the feeder's declaration is not built on a draft.
The importer in Poland carries the check: CE marking on the battery and an EU declaration of conformity, translated into the language Poland asks for, have both been required since 18 August 2024 for batteries entering the EU market.
What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer in China for the declaration of conformity and a photo of the CE marking on the battery or its packaging before loading, and pass them to the Poland importer. We check that the documents exist and match the goods; we do not assess conformity.

Documents & compliance
Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Lianyungang filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Poland before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Gdynia.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| ESS unit not isolated or poorly distributed in a break-bulk hold | Lianyungang, break-bulk loading | Manufacturer's written isolation steps; safety meeting | Manufacturer / ship, coordinated by Anxin |
| Feeder's declaration differs from the mainline booking | Port of Gdynia | DG data final before the mainline departure | Carrier / agent |
| Declaration of conformity missing or not in the required language | Importer in Poland | Declaration and CE photo collected before loading | Manufacturer / importer |
Questions
Through the National Single Window, at least 24 hours before arrival or at departure from the previous port on a shorter voyage; the harbour master then sets conditions for entry and handling.
Often, but it depends on the service. The Baltic is reached through the Danish straits, and we ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and confirm DG acceptance for each vessel.
Its June 2025 break-bulk ESS guide recommends 20–50% remaining charge, with converters and monitoring off and circuits disconnected.
