From Lianyungang to Jeddah Islamic Port, cargo moves through Lianyungang port, crosses an approach through Bab-el-Mandeb into one of the world's warmest seas, and is discharged at a Red Sea port whose tariff starts charging storage on class 9 containers from the fourth day after discharge.

On the Saudi side every consignment needs its own SABER shipment certificate and Arabic-language labels. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

Route profile

What sets Lianyungang → Jeddah Islamic Port apart

Origin port

Lianyungang

Jiangsu's Yellow Sea port, with a simplified document list for 'new three' cargo since 2024 and its own guide for energy-storage units on break-bulk ships.

Destination port

Jeddah Islamic Port

A short storage-free window after discharge under the Mawani tariff, a dangerous-cargo handling surcharge, and a terminal running at record volumes.

Where this route gets difficult

5 pain points from Lianyungang to Jeddah Islamic Port

In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Jeddah Islamic Port and at customs in Saudi Arabia.

  1. Origin port

    Fog season at Lianyungang

Between April and July sea fog is a major marine hazard in the Yellow and Bohai Seas, the China Meteorological Administration says. Lianyungang, like Qingdao, can see vessels held at anchor by fog, and moving a box to another vessel means amending its DG filings.

What Anxin does: In fog season we keep slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off and have the filing data ready to amend.

  2. Origin port

Energy storage on break-bulk ships: Lianyungang's own rules

Lianyungang MSA's June 2025 guide for ESS on break-bulk ships treats ESS cabinets as UN3480 and ESS containers as UN3536, recommends a remaining charge of 20–50%, and requires converters and monitoring to be powered off, series and parallel circuits disconnected, packages evenly spread with a low centre of gravity, and a safety meeting before the ship arrives.

What Anxin does: For ESS units we confirm the UN number the unit ships under, get the state of charge and isolation steps in writing from the manufacturer, and join the pre-arrival safety meeting with the stowage details.

  3. Sea corridor

The Red Sea is unavoidable for Jeddah Islamic Port

Jeddah Islamic Port is reached only through the Red Sea: either through Bab-el-Mandeb from the south or round Africa and down through Suez. After Houthi attacks on southern Saudi Arabia in September 2026, including Aramco facilities at Jazan, and a declared 'maritime embargo', container lines were choosing their Red Sea calls selectively, and many ships switched off AIS.

What Anxin does: We ask each carrier how it currently reaches Jeddah Islamic Port (through Bab-el-Mandeb on the same vessel, via a transhipment hub, or from the north via Suez) and name that routing, and any war-risk or emergency surcharge the carrier applies, in the written quote.

  4. Destination port

Record volumes at the south container terminal

DP World's South Container Terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port handled more than 221,200 TEU in July 2026, its strongest month since 1999, as carriers restored some Red Sea services and looked for alternatives to Gulf hubs hit by the Hormuz disruption. High throughput brings connectivity, but leaves less slack for containers that need special handling or are still waiting for documents.

What Anxin does: We confirm the discharge terminal on the booking and pass it to the importer's broker and haulier early, so collection is arranged before the vessel arrives rather than after.

  5. Import country

Containers for Saudi ports must be palletised

Since 8 May 2025, phased in over 12 months, containerised imports at Saudi ports have to be palletised to speed up handling and inspection. Exemptions exist for goods that cannot be palletised, such as bulk or oversized items, but only with approval. Floor-loaded battery cartons from Lianyungang fall outside the rule.

What Anxin does: We plan the stuffing in Lianyungang on pallets from the start, with the CINS blocking and bracing on top, and send stuffing photos to the Saudi Arabia importer before the box is sealed.

Documents to line up for Lianyungang → Jeddah Islamic Port

Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

In Lianyungang, before the box is loaded

  • For ESS: UN3480 or UN3536 confirmed, state of charge and circuit isolation stated in writing
  • Transport-condition classification report where applicable
  • Load plan showing even weight distribution (no more than 60% of the cargo weight in either half of the container length)
  • Stuffing plan on pallets (Saudi palletisation rule) with blocking and bracing photos
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report

For the shipping line

  • Carrier's current routing into the Red Sea and any transhipment port, stated on the booking
  • Lithium battery mark (SP188 cargo) or class 9 labels and placards
  • Condition statement: new, used, damaged/defective (SP376) or for recycling (SP377)

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Lianyungang filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Saudi Arabia before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Jeddah Islamic Port.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Questions about shipping from Lianyungang to Jeddah Islamic Port

In FASAH at least 72 hours before arrival for ships from distant ports such as China, and since 1 May 2026 it must include the 6-digit HS code, cargo size and the dangerous-goods details, or it is rejected.

The JMIC rated the Gulf of Aden SUBSTANTIAL in September 2026, with piracy and attacks a strong possibility, and four merchant vessels hijacked off Somalia in 2026 were still held. We confirm the carrier's routing and security surcharges at each booking.

Its June 2025 break-bulk ESS guide recommends 20–50% remaining charge, with converters and monitoring off and circuits disconnected.
