Lianyungang to Gothenburg
Yellow Sea · Taiwan Strait · Malacca Strait · Indian Ocean · Bab-el-Mandeb · Suez Canal · Strait of Gibraltar · English Channel
This route runs out of Lianyungang, where the MSA simplified 'new three' filings in 2024, then follows a voyage that may run through Suez as drawn or round the Cape, depending on the service; at the far end is the port of Gothenburg.
Sweden has required producer registration with Naturvårdsverket since January 2026. Below are 6 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.
What we need to start
Route profile
Jiangsu's Yellow Sea port, with a simplified document list for 'new three' cargo since 2024 and its own guide for energy-storage units on break-bulk ships.
Naturvårdsverket registration under Ordinance 2025:813 since 1 January 2026, plus EU duties from CE marking to ADR on the road leg.

Where this route gets difficult
In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Gothenburg and at customs in Sweden.
For energy storage shipped on break-bulk vessels, Lianyungang MSA's June 2025 guide classes ESS cabinets as UN3480 and ESS containers as UN3536, recommends 20–50% remaining charge, and requires converters and monitoring switched off, series and parallel circuits disconnected, packages spread evenly with a low centre of gravity, and a safety meeting before the ship arrives.
What Anxin does: For ESS units we confirm the UN number the unit ships under, get the state of charge and isolation steps in writing from the manufacturer, and join the pre-arrival safety meeting with the stowage details.
The China Meteorological Administration describes sea fog as a major marine hazard in the Yellow and Bohai Seas, mainly from April to July. At Lianyungang, as at Qingdao, fog can hold vessels at anchor, and a changed vessel means amended DG filings.
What Anxin does: In fog season we keep slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off and have the filing data ready to amend.
Ships of 5,000 GT and above calling at EU ports, Gothenburg included, are in the EU Emissions Trading System: 50% of the emissions of a voyage from China are covered, and the share of emissions for which lines must surrender allowances rises from 70% (for 2025 emissions) to 100% from 2027. Carriers can pass that cost on as a surcharge.
What Anxin does: We ask for the emissions surcharge to be shown as its own line in the quote, with the basis the carrier uses, so that successive quotes can be compared like for like.
Two marking dates fall into current shipping plans for Sweden: the general label from 18 August 2026 and the QR code from 18 February 2027, which for EV, LMT and larger industrial batteries has to open the battery passport.
What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Sweden importer to confirm the battery category and whether the label and QR-code elements are already on the goods, and compare carton photos with that answer.
For Gothenburg, EU security pre-filing happens at the other end of the voyage: the ICS2 entry summary must reach the system 24 hours before the container is loaded in Lianyungang. No filing means no loading, and a missing EORI number is enough to reject it.
What Anxin does: We collect the consignee's EORI number, an HS-level goods description and the house-bill parties at booking, and make sure the party filing the ENS has them before the Lianyungang cut-off.
Article 11 of the Battery Regulation says that from 18 February 2027 portable batteries inside appliances must be readily removable and replaceable by the end-user using commercially available tools, without heat or solvents, except under limited derogations. Appliances sold in Sweden after that date need a design that complies.
What Anxin does: When appliances with built-in batteries are booked for Sweden we point the importer to the February 2027 date so the manufacturer answers the design question before shipment; we do not assess compliance.

Documents & compliance
Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Lianyungang export filings, the carrier booking and the Sweden import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| ESS unit not isolated or poorly distributed in a break-bulk hold | Lianyungang, break-bulk loading | Manufacturer's written isolation steps; safety meeting | Manufacturer / ship, coordinated by Anxin |
| Emissions surcharge changes between quote and sailing | EU port call | Surcharge shown as a separate line with its basis | Carrier, checked by Anxin |
| ENS not filed and the box is refused at loading | Loading port, Lianyungang | EORI and house-bill data passed to the filer at booking | Filer (carrier / forwarder) |
| Stock shipped without the label due from August 2026 | Importer in Sweden | Label status confirmed before booking | Manufacturer / importer |
Questions
Yes. Since 1 January 2026 producers, which includes importers placing batteries on the Swedish market, must be registered with Naturvårdsverket under Ordinance 2025:813.
It depends on the service. In September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sailed round the Cape of Good Hope; Sea-Intelligence put the Red Sea share for North Europe vessels at 27%. We ask the carrier to confirm the routing on the booking and quote each routing separately.
Its June 2025 break-bulk ESS guide recommends 20–50% remaining charge, with converters and monitoring off and circuits disconnected.
