This route runs through Lianyungang port, then follows a corridor through the Turkish Straits; at the far end is the port of Gemlik.

On the Turkish side battery importers need TAP membership and a TAREKS environmental compliance permit. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Fog season Apr–Jul
  • Lianyungang export
  • TAP membership + Çevre Uyum İzni
  • TAREKS application
  • CE declaration of conformity

Route profile

The Lianyungang → Gemlik route in brief

Origin port

Lianyungang

Jiangsu's Yellow Sea port, with a simplified document list for 'new three' cargo since 2024 and its own guide for energy-storage units on break-bulk ships.

Sea corridor

Asia – Black Sea via Suez and the Turkish Straits

Suez, the Aegean and the Turkish Straits, with a 24-hour DG sailing plan before the Bosporus and, since September 2026, almost the whole Black Sea on the war-risk list.

Where this route gets difficult

5 points to plan for on the Lianyungang → Gemlik route

They run from the Lianyungang terminal through the voyage to Gemlik and the Turkey import file.

  1. Origin port

    Lianyungang's break-bulk guide for ESS

For energy storage shipped on break-bulk vessels, Lianyungang MSA's June 2025 guide classes ESS cabinets as UN3480 and ESS containers as UN3536, recommends 20–50% remaining charge, and requires converters and monitoring switched off, series and parallel circuits disconnected, packages spread evenly with a low centre of gravity, and a safety meeting before the ship arrives.

What Anxin does: For ESS units we confirm the UN number the unit ships under, get the state of charge and isolation steps in writing from the manufacturer, and join the pre-arrival safety meeting with the stowage details.

  2. Origin port

    Fog season at Lianyungang

Between April and July sea fog is a major marine hazard in the Yellow and Bohai Seas, the China Meteorological Administration says. Lianyungang, like Qingdao, can see vessels held at anchor by fog, and moving a box to another vessel means amending its DG filings.

What Anxin does: In fog season we keep slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off and have the filing data ready to amend.

  3. Sea corridor

Bab el-Mandeb and Suez come first

To reach the Black Sea a ship passes Suez. Mediterranean-type services took the Red Sea routing 57% of the time in September 2026, and the JMIC rated Bab el-Mandeb SUBSTANTIAL, with the Houthis in control of Perim Island in the channel.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier which routing the service uses and name it on the quote.

  4. Import country

    Risk-based TAREKS check comes first

A battery container landed at Gemlik cannot be declared to customs until the TAREKS import inspection under Communiqué 2017/15 is done; the system selects checks by risk analysis, and the importer answers for compliance.

What Anxin does: We send the importer the manufacturer's declaration of conformity, test reports and product photos before loading, for its TAREKS application.

  5. Import country

    Collection-system membership before the permit

Türkiye links battery imports to waste collection: the importer joins TAP, with a board decision within 30 days, and only then requests the environmental compliance permit through TAREKS.

What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Turkish importer for its TAP membership and permit status, so a first-time importer starts the 30-day process before the goods leave Lianyungang.

Documents & compliance

Checklist for Lianyungang → Gemlik

Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

Before loading in Lianyungang

  • For ESS: UN3480 or UN3536 confirmed, state of charge and circuit isolation stated in writing
  • Battery type, quantity and weight per invoice line (for GEKAP)
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing

For the carrier and the voyage

  • Final DG manifest data ready before the vessel reaches the Turkish Straits
  • Condition statement: new, used, damaged/defective (SP376) or for recycling (SP377)
  • Consignee, HS-level description and DG data to the özet beyan filer at booking

For import into Turkey

  • Importer's TAP membership and Çevre Uyum İzni (TAREKS)

Before you book

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Lianyungang export filings, the carrier booking and the Turkey import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Lianyungang → Gemlik: questions we are asked

Membership of TAP (or its system), decided within 30 days, and then an environmental compliance permit applied for through TAREKS; GEKAP is also payable on batteries placed on the market.

A Sailing Plan 1 to the Turkish Straits VTS at least 24 hours before entry, including the dangerous cargo classes on board.

Its June 2025 break-bulk ESS guide recommends 20–50% remaining charge, with converters and monitoring off and circuits disconnected.
