This route runs through Ningbo's Beilun or Meishan terminals under Zhejiang MSA's 2026 battery guide, then follows a lane whose routing, Suez or Cape of Good Hope, is decided service by service; at the far end is the port of Brest.

The French side checks the producer's unique identifier (IDU) as well as the EU battery rules. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Beilun / Meishan export
  • Zhejiang MSA battery guide 2026
  • Consignee EORI
  • EU declaration of conformity
  • IDU (batteries stream)

Route profile

How Ningbo → Brest differs from other lanes

Origin port

Ningbo-Zhoushan (Beilun / Meishan)

Beilun and Meishan exports under Zhejiang MSA's January 2026 battery guide, which trims duplicate filings but not the carrier's own document checks.

Sea corridor

Asia – North & Atlantic Europe

The map shows the Suez corridor, but in September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sails round the Cape of Good Hope.

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Ningbo and Brest: 5 points

In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Brest and at customs in France.

  1. Origin port

Ningbo drops two MSA papers, carriers still check them

Since Zhejiang MSA's January 2026 battery guide, a Ningbo shipper no longer attaches the UN38.3 test summary at the MSA cargo-report stage (the carrier receives it instead) and does not resubmit the safety data sheet for an unchanged maker, owner and model. Carriers must still review the documents and turn away batteries that fail the ship-carriage standard JT/T 1543-2025.

What Anxin does: We send the UN38.3 summary and SDS to the carrier with the booking request, and keep a per-model file so repeat shipments use the SDS already on record.

  2. Sea corridor

Suez on the map, the Cape on most sailings

The corridor on this page is drawn through Bab-el-Mandeb and the Suez Canal. In practice, Sea-Intelligence data for September 2026 put Red Sea routing on the Asia–Europe head-haul at 13–25%: 27% for services to North Europe and 57% for Mediterranean services. Which service calls at Brest decides whether the box goes through Suez or round the Cape of Good Hope, and the two routings differ in length, in the waters crossed and in the ports where a box might be transhipped.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to state the routing and any transhipment port on the booking confirmation, and we quote the two routings separately when both are on offer rather than mixing them.

  3. Import country

Safety information in a language France accepts

An importer has to ensure that batteries are accompanied by instructions and safety information in a language that end-users in France can easily understand, as the Member State determines. Inserts and carton print are much simpler to adjust before packing in China.

What Anxin does: We ask the importer which language France requires and check carton and insert photos against it before loading.

  4. Import country

The ICS2 entry summary is due before loading in Ningbo

For Brest, EU security pre-filing happens at the other end of the voyage: the ICS2 entry summary must reach the system 24 hours before the container is loaded in Ningbo. No filing means no loading, and a missing EORI number is enough to reject it.

What Anxin does: We collect the consignee's EORI number, an HS-level goods description and the house-bill parties at booking, and make sure the party filing the ENS has them before the Ningbo cut-off.

  5. Import country

Battery label from August 2026, QR code from February 2027

The Battery Regulation's general information label applies from 18 August 2026 (or 18 months after the label implementing act, if later), and every battery needs a QR code from 18 February 2027, linked to a battery passport for EV, LMT and industrial batteries above 2 kWh. Where the battery is too small, both go on the packaging and accompanying documents.

What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the France importer to confirm the battery category and whether the label and QR-code elements are already on the goods, and compare carton photos with that answer.

Documents & compliance

What to have ready: Ningbo to Brest

Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

Before loading in Ningbo

  • UN38.3 test summary for the carrier (not required at the Zhejiang MSA cargo-report stage)
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing
  • Transport-condition classification report where applicable

For the carrier and the voyage

  • Routing (Suez or Cape of Good Hope) and any transhipment port stated on the booking confirmation
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)

For the importer in France

  • Label and QR-code status against the August 2026 and February 2027 dates
  • Batteries-stream IDU of the producer of record in France
  • Eco-organisme (or approved individual system) for the battery category

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Ningbo filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for France before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Brest.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Questions about shipping from Ningbo to Brest

24 hours before the container is loaded in China, not before it reaches Brest. Without it carriers do not load the box, and a filing without an EORI number is rejected.

Ships of 5,000 GT and above calling at EU ports are in the EU Emissions Trading System, covering 50% of the emissions of a voyage from outside the EU. Lines must surrender allowances for 70% of 2025 emissions and 100% from 2027, and may pass the cost on as a surcharge.

Yes. Zhejiang MSA's 2026 guide removed it from the MSA cargo-report stage, but it still has to go to the carrier, which must refuse batteries that do not meet JT/T 1543-2025.
