Lithium batteries for Santa Cruz de Tenerife go from Zhejiang's battery and energy-storage makers via Ningbo-Zhoushan. On the way they face a Bab el-Mandeb and Suez passage into the Mediterranean, and they arrive at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The Spanish side checks RII-PYA registration alongside the EU battery rules. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Zhejiang MSA battery guide 2026
  • Beilun / Meishan export
  • Spanish-language safety information
  • Consignee EORI
  • EU declaration of conformity

Route profile

How Ningbo → Santa Cruz de Tenerife differs from other lanes

Origin port

Ningbo-Zhoushan (Beilun / Meishan)

Beilun and Meishan exports under Zhejiang MSA's January 2026 battery guide, which trims duplicate filings but not the carrier's own document checks.

Sea corridor

Asia – Mediterranean via Suez

Mediterranean services are the ones most likely to use Suez again (57% in September 2026), which puts the cargo back through Bab el-Mandeb, rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat.

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Ningbo and Santa Cruz de Tenerife: 5 points

In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Santa Cruz de Tenerife and at customs in Spain.

  1. Origin port

Weight balance and stowage under Zhejiang's guide

Zhejiang MSA's January 2026 guide gives a measurable loading rule: neither half of the container's length may hold more than 60% of the cargo weight, and packages must be braced. On deck, battery boxes should sit within fire-fighting coverage and out of direct sun; below deck, in holds fitted with temperature probes.

What Anxin does: We ask for the load plan before stuffing and check the 60% split on the stuffing photos, and we pass the shading and away-from-heat stowage request to the carrier on the booking.

  2. Sea corridor

Mediterranean services are back in the Red Sea more than others

Sea-Intelligence data for September 2026 show 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services routed via the Red Sea, against 27% for North Europe. For Santa Cruz de Tenerife the Suez routing is therefore the likely one, and it runs through Bab el-Mandeb, which the JMIC rated SUBSTANTIAL on 24 September 2026: the Houthis describe their blockade as selective, and they now hold Perim Island in the channel.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier which routing its service to Santa Cruz de Tenerife uses and name it on the quote, together with any war-risk or emergency surcharge.

  3. Import country

CE marking and a declaration of conformity in the right language

The importer in Spain carries the check: CE marking on the battery and an EU declaration of conformity, translated into the language Spain asks for, have both been required since 18 August 2024 for batteries entering the EU market.

What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer in China for the declaration of conformity and a photo of the CE marking on the battery or its packaging before loading, and pass them to the Spain importer. We check that the documents exist and match the goods; we do not assess conformity.

  4. Import country

The ICS2 entry summary is due before loading in Ningbo

Sea cargo for the EU needs a complete Entry Summary Declaration under ICS2 Release 3, and for deep-sea containers it is due 24 hours before loading at the departure port. Carriers apply 'no manifest, no load', and a filing without a valid EORI number is rejected, so a data gap in Ningbo leaves the box on the quay.

What Anxin does: We collect the consignee's EORI number, an HS-level goods description and the house-bill parties at booking, and make sure the party filing the ENS has them before the Ningbo cut-off.

  5. Import country

Safety information in a language Spain accepts

An importer has to ensure that batteries are accompanied by instructions and safety information in a language that end-users in Spain can easily understand, as the Member State determines. Inserts and carton print are much simpler to adjust before packing in China.

What Anxin does: We ask the importer which language Spain requires and check carton and insert photos against it before loading.

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Ningbo filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Spain before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Common questions on the Ningbo → Santa Cruz de Tenerife route

The importer, as producer, in the RII-PYA register. A collective scheme may register it on its behalf; otherwise registration is online with an electronic signature or Cl@ve. The registration number must appear on invoices.

Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.

Zhejiang MSA's 2026 guide says the cargo weight in any half of the container's length should not exceed 60% of the total, with every package braced and checked for damage and marks.
