Lithium batteries for Copenhagen go through Qingdao's Qianwan terminals. On the way they face a Suez-or-Cape voyage that ends with the Danish straits and the Baltic, and they arrive at the port of Copenhagen.
Denmark registers battery producers through Dansk Producentansvar. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.
What we need to start
Route profile
Qianwan exports from Shandong, where Qingdao MSA's one-document pilot cuts repeat filings for cargo moved between terminals by water.
Registration with Dansk Producentansvar via virk.dk, a Danish authorised representative for foreign sellers, and the EU-wide battery and ICS2 duties.

Where this route gets difficult
Listed from loading in Qingdao to import into Denmark, each with what we do about it.
The China Meteorological Administration lists sea fog among the major marine hazards of the Yellow and Bohai Seas, mostly between April and July and with a serious effect on shipping. At Qingdao a fog hold can shift a battery container onto another vessel, and its DG filings must follow.
What Anxin does: In fog season we leave slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off at Qianwan and keep the cargo report ready to amend quickly if the vessel changes.
Shandong MSA has issued a waterway safe-transport guide specifically for lithium battery energy storage systems at Shandong coastal ports, so ESS units shipped from Qingdao should be prepared with that provincial guide in mind as well as the IMDG Code.
What Anxin does: For ESS cargo we review the unit's packing and securing plan against the Shandong guide with the packing site before booking.
Ships of 5,000 GT and above calling at EU ports, Copenhagen included, are in the EU Emissions Trading System: 50% of the emissions of a voyage from China are covered, and the share of emissions for which lines must surrender allowances rises from 70% (for 2025 emissions) to 100% from 2027. Carriers can pass that cost on as a surcharge.
What Anxin does: We ask for the emissions surcharge to be shown as its own line in the quote, with the basis the carrier uses, so that successive quotes can be compared like for like.
Two marking dates fall into current shipping plans for Denmark: the general label from 18 August 2026 and the QR code from 18 February 2027, which for EV, LMT and larger industrial batteries has to open the battery passport.
What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Denmark importer to confirm the battery category and whether the label and QR-code elements are already on the goods, and compare carton photos with that answer.
The Battery Regulation's due diligence obligations on cobalt, lithium, nickel and natural graphite were postponed by Regulation (EU) 2025/1561 and now apply from 18 August 2027, with Commission guidelines due by 26 July 2026. Buyers in Denmark are already asking suppliers for the supply-chain data they will need.
What Anxin does: We pass the Denmark buyer's due diligence questions to the manufacturer and keep their answers with the shipment file; the policy itself remains the producer's responsibility.

Documents & compliance
Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Qingdao export filings, the carrier booking and the Denmark import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fog hold forces a vessel change after filing | Qingdao, Apr–Jul | Slack in schedule; amendment-ready filing | Anxin with the declarant |
| Emissions surcharge changes between quote and sailing | EU port call | Surcharge shown as a separate line | Carrier, checked by Anxin |
| Stock shipped without the label due from August 2026 | Importer in Denmark | Label status confirmed before booking | Manufacturer / importer |
Questions
The importer's: name, registered trade name or trade mark and postal address with a contact point, on the battery or, if it is too small, on the packaging or accompanying document.
Often, but it depends on the service. The Baltic is reached through the Danish straits, and we ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and confirm DG acceptance for each vessel.
Mainly April to July, according to the China Meteorological Administration, which calls sea fog a major hazard for Yellow Sea transport.
