Lithium batteries for Gdansk go from Shandong through Qingdao's Qianwan terminals, where Qingdao MSA pilots one-document transhipment. On the way they face a long Europe voyage extended through the Danish straits into the Baltic, and they arrive at a Baltic port where the harbour master sets conditions for handling each dangerous-goods cargo.
The Polish side adds the BDO number to the EU battery rules. This page sets out 6 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.
What we need to start
Route profile
Qianwan exports from Shandong, where Qingdao MSA's one-document pilot cuts repeat filings for cargo moved between terminals by water.
The Baltic is reached only through the Danish straits, where deep-draught ships are advised to take pilots, and its northern ports set ice-class restrictions every winter.

Where this route gets difficult
In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Gdansk and at customs in Poland.
The China Meteorological Administration describes sea fog as one of the major marine hazards of the Yellow and Bohai Seas, with the season mainly from April to July and a serious effect on sea transport. Fog holds at Qingdao can move a battery box to another vessel, and the DG filings have to move with it.
What Anxin does: In fog season we leave slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off at Qianwan and keep the cargo report ready to amend quickly if the vessel changes.
Because Gdansk is an EU port, container ships of 5,000 GT or more calling there fall under the EU Emissions Trading System, which covers half the emissions of the voyage from China. Lines surrendered allowances for 70% of those emissions in 2025 and must cover 100% from 2027, a cost that can reach shippers as a surcharge.
What Anxin does: We ask for the emissions surcharge to be shown as its own line in the quote, with the basis the carrier uses, so that successive quotes can be compared like for like.
In the ports supervised by the Maritime Office in Gdynia, the dangerous goods on an arriving ship are declared through the National Single Window at least 24 hours ahead, or on departure from the previous port on a short leg, which is common for Baltic feeders. The harbour master then gives consent and sets conditions for entry and handling.
What Anxin does: Because most Chinese cargo reaches Gdansk by feeder, we check the DG data are final before the mainline ship leaves Qingdao, so the feeder's declaration is not built on a draft.
Since 18 August 2024 a battery sold in the EU needs the CE marking and an EU declaration of conformity from its manufacturer. The declaration has to be available in the language Poland requires, and the importer is the one who must check both before the goods are released for sale.
What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer in China for the declaration of conformity and a photo of the CE marking on the battery or its packaging before loading, and pass them to the Poland importer. We check that the documents exist and match the goods; we do not assess conformity.
For Gdansk, EU security pre-filing happens at the other end of the voyage: the ICS2 entry summary must reach the system 24 hours before the container is loaded in Qingdao. No filing means no loading, and a missing EORI number is enough to reject it.
What Anxin does: We collect the consignee's EORI number, an HS-level goods description and the house-bill parties at booking, and make sure the party filing the ENS has them before the Qingdao cut-off.
A battery entering Poland has to identify its importer: name, registered trade name or trade mark, postal address and a contact point belong on the battery itself, or on the packaging or accompanying document when the battery is too small. That text is fixed at the factory, not at Gdansk.
What Anxin does: We pass the Poland importer's name and address block to the manufacturer before the goods are packed in China and check carton or battery photos for it before loading.

Documents & compliance
Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Qingdao filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Poland before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Gdansk.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fog hold forces a vessel change after filing | Qingdao, Apr–Jul | Slack in schedule; amendment-ready filing | Anxin with the declarant |
| Emissions surcharge changes between quote and sailing | EU port call | Surcharge shown as a separate line | Carrier, checked by Anxin |
| Feeder's declaration differs from the mainline booking | Port of Gdansk | DG data final before the mainline departure | Carrier / agent |
| Declaration of conformity missing or not in the required language | Importer in Poland | Declaration and CE photo collected before loading | Manufacturer / importer |
Questions
24 hours before the container is loaded in China, not before it reaches Gdansk. Without it carriers do not load the box, and a filing without an EORI number is rejected.
Often, but it depends on the service. The Baltic is reached through the Danish straits, and we ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and confirm DG acceptance for each vessel.
Mainly April to July, according to the China Meteorological Administration, which calls sea fog a major hazard for Yellow Sea transport.
