This route runs through Qingdao's Qianwan terminals, then follows a Bab el-Mandeb and Suez passage into the Mediterranean; at the far end is the port of Ambarli.

On the Turkish side battery importers need TAP membership and a TAREKS environmental compliance permit. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

  • Qianwan export
  • One-document pilot
  • TAP membership + Çevre Uyum İzni
  • TAREKS application
  • CE declaration of conformity

Route profile

What sets Qingdao → Ambarli apart

Origin port

Qingdao (Qianwan)

Qianwan exports from Shandong, where Qingdao MSA's one-document pilot cuts repeat filings for cargo moved between terminals by water.

Import country

Türkiye

CE evidence, a TAREKS check and a clean invoice with HS codes are what Turkish customs looks for on batteries.

Where this route gets difficult

Where Qingdao → Ambarli shipments get held up: 5 points

They run from the Qingdao terminal through the voyage to Ambarli and the Turkey import file.

  1. Origin port

Energy-storage systems follow Shandong's own ESS guide

Shandong MSA has issued a waterway safe-transport guide specifically for lithium battery energy storage systems at Shandong coastal ports, so ESS units shipped from Qingdao should be prepared with that provincial guide in mind as well as the IMDG Code.

What Anxin does: For ESS cargo we review the unit's packing and securing plan against the Shandong guide with the packing site before booking.

  2. Sea corridor

    The round-Africa alternative

Services that avoid the Red Sea, 43% of the Mediterranean total, go round the Cape of Good Hope and re-enter through Gibraltar. SAMSA estimates that about 200 of the 576 containers lost at sea in 2024, 35% of the total, went overboard near the Cape.

What Anxin does: On Cape sailings we apply the CINS blocking and bracing checks strictly on stuffing photos before sealing.

  3. Import country

Özet beyan filed before the box is loaded

For Ambarli, Turkish customs wants the entry summary declaration 24 hours before loading in China, filed electronically to the office of discharge; the carrier is answerable for third-party filings, and an arrival notification follows when the ship docks.

What Anxin does: We give the carrier or filer the consignee details, HS-level description and DG data at booking, well before the Qingdao cut-off.

  4. Import country

    Collection-system membership before the permit

Türkiye links battery imports to waste collection: the importer joins TAP, with a board decision within 30 days, and only then requests the environmental compliance permit through TAREKS.

What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Turkish importer for its TAP membership and permit status, so a first-time importer starts the 30-day process before the goods leave Qingdao.

  5. Import country

    Risk-based TAREKS check comes first

A battery container landed at Ambarli cannot be declared to customs until the TAREKS import inspection under Communiqué 2017/15 is done; the system selects checks by risk analysis, and the importer answers for compliance.

What Anxin does: We send the importer the manufacturer's declaration of conformity, test reports and product photos before loading, for its TAREKS application.

Send the file once, complete

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Qingdao filings, the carrier booking and the Turkey import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Qingdao → Ambarli: questions we are asked

At least 24 hours before the container is loaded at the departure port in China, filed electronically to the customs office of discharge.

Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.

Mainly April to July, according to the China Meteorological Administration, which calls sea fog a major hazard for Yellow Sea transport.
