From Shenzhen to Khalifa Bin Salman Port, cargo moves from Dongguan and Shenzhen factories via Yantian, crosses a corridor across the Arabian Sea and, for Gulf ports, through Hormuz, and is discharged at Khalifa Bin Salman Port, which takes every hazardous class but wants DG paperwork three days ahead.

On the Bahraini side a licensed clearing agent normally lodges the bill of entry ahead of arrival. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Typhoon season Jun–Oct
  • Yantian / Shekou export
  • Licensed clearing agent in Bahrain
  • MSDS to terminal planning 72 h before arrival

Route profile

What sets Shenzhen → Khalifa Bin Salman Port apart

Origin port

Shenzhen (Yantian / Shekou)

Pearl River Delta battery cargo, often stuffed at factories in Dongguan or Huizhou, exported through Yantian or Shekou, with a typhoon season from June to October.

Sea corridor

Asia – Arabian Sea & the Gulf

The Arabian Sea in the monsoon season, GNSS jamming near the Gulf of Oman and, for ports inside the Gulf, a Hormuz passage rated SEVERE in September 2026.

Where this route gets difficult

5 points to plan for on the Shenzhen → Khalifa Bin Salman Port route

They run from the Shenzhen terminal through the voyage to Khalifa Bin Salman Port and the Bahrain import file.

  1. Origin port

    Cut-offs in Shenzhen's typhoon weeks

June to October is the regional tropical cyclone season according to the Hong Kong Observatory, peaking July to September. Because DG boxes need approved MSA filings and a signed packing certificate before loading, a gate closure or rolled vessel in those weeks can move the entire document chain to another sailing.

What Anxin does: From June to October we build slack into the stuffing date, confirm the DG cut-off with the carrier the week before loading, and resubmit filings promptly if the vessel changes.

  2. Origin port

Inspected in Dongguan, loaded unopened at Yantian

A large share of Shenzhen's battery exports is stuffed inland and trucked to the quay. In a May 2026 cross-regional 'one-box' pilot, Yantian MSA and Dongguan MSA jointly inspected four battery containers at a Dongguan factory and loaded them at Yantian without reopening them, which shows that the factory inspection record is what counts at the terminal.

What Anxin does: We ask at booking whether your factory and the terminal's MSA office can use the one-box arrangement, and we have stuffing photos, the packing certificate and the DG declaration match exactly, so the container is not held for re-inspection.

  3. Sea corridor

    GNSS jamming across the approaches

The JMIC reports persistent GNSS jamming and spoofing across the Hormuz approaches, the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Gulf, and rates the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea MODERATE. Anomalous AIS positions and speeds are reported in the same areas, so vessel positions shown in tracking tools are less reliable there.

What Anxin does: We rely on the carrier's own schedule updates rather than third-party AIS positions when we give you an arrival estimate for Khalifa Bin Salman Port.

  4. Destination port

MSDS and manifest to terminal planning 72 hours out

APM Terminals Bahrain handles all hazardous classes at Khalifa Bin Salman Port, but the shipping agent must send the MSDS and cargo manifest for every hazardous container to its planning team at least 72 hours before the vessel arrives. Class 9 batteries do not need the government approvals required for classes such as 1 or 7, so the 72-hour paperwork is the gate.

What Anxin does: We send the carrier the SDS for each battery type with the DG declaration at booking, so the agent has it well before the 72-hour point for Khalifa Bin Salman Port.

  5. Import country

A licensed clearing agent lodges the bill of entry

In Bahrain the customs bill of entry comes before the import, not after discharge, and the usual route is a registered, licensed clearing agent working to Bahrain Customs procedures.

What Anxin does: We ask the importer which licensed clearing agent will lodge the bill of entry and send that agent the invoice, packing list and DG details as soon as the ship sails from Shenzhen.

Documents & compliance

What to have ready: Shenzhen to Khalifa Bin Salman Port

These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

Before loading in Shenzhen

  • Confirmation from the carrier of the DG cut-off at Yantian or Shekou, rechecked in typhoon weeks
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing
  • Transport-condition classification report where applicable

For the shipping line

  • Carrier's current call pattern and war-risk surcharge for the Gulf port in writing
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)

For import into Bahrain

  • Licensed clearing agent named, with documents for the bill of entry

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Shenzhen export filings, the carrier booking and the Bahrain import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Shenzhen → Khalifa Bin Salman Port: questions we are asked

The importer or its local agent completes the bill of entry before import; a registered, licensed clearing agent is recommended.

Between June and September India's southwest monsoon brings rough seas and squalls to the Arabian Sea that regularly disrupt port operations, so we check blocking and bracing on the stuffing photos and allow slack in the delivery plan.

Yes, provided a certified packing inspector supervises the stuffing and signs the container packing certificate. Since May 2026 Yantian and Dongguan MSA have also piloted joint factory inspection so the container can be loaded at Yantian without reopening; we check whether your shipment can use it.
