This route runs from Dongguan and Shenzhen factories via Yantian, where the one-box route had moved 409 battery containers by September 2026, then follows a Bab el-Mandeb and Suez passage into the Mediterranean; at the far end is the port of Vigo.

Spain wants the producer on the RII-PYA register, with its number on the invoice. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.

What we need to start

  • Typhoon season Jun–Oct
  • Yantian / Shekou export
  • Spanish-language safety information
  • Consignee EORI
  • EU declaration of conformity

Route profile

What sets Shenzhen → Vigo apart

Sea corridor

Asia – Mediterranean via Suez

Mediterranean services are the ones most likely to use Suez again (57% in September 2026), which puts the cargo back through Bab el-Mandeb, rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat.

Spain

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Shenzhen and Vigo: 5 points

Listed from loading in Shenzhen to import into Spain, each with what we do about it.

  1. Origin port

    Cut-offs in Shenzhen's typhoon weeks

June to October is the regional tropical cyclone season according to the Hong Kong Observatory, peaking July to September. Because DG boxes need approved MSA filings and a signed packing certificate before loading, a gate closure or rolled vessel in those weeks can move the entire document chain to another sailing.

What Anxin does: From June to October we build slack into the stuffing date, confirm the DG cut-off with the carrier the week before loading, and resubmit filings promptly if the vessel changes.

  2. Sea corridor

Mediterranean services are back in the Red Sea more than others

Sea-Intelligence data for September 2026 show 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services routed via the Red Sea, against 27% for North Europe. For Vigo the Suez routing is therefore the likely one, and it runs through Bab el-Mandeb, which the JMIC rated SUBSTANTIAL on 24 September 2026: the Houthis describe their blockade as selective, and they now hold Perim Island in the channel.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier which routing its service to Vigo uses and name it on the quote, together with any war-risk or emergency surcharge.

  3. Import country

Batteries inside equipment count, quarter by quarter

The Spanish register covers batteries built into electrical equipment as well as loose cells, removable or not. Quantities are declared per quarter; mistakes can be corrected until 25 January of the next year, and any change in registration data must be updated within a month.

What Anxin does: When batteries travel inside devices we list battery quantity and chemistry separately on the packing list, so the importer can report them without reopening cartons.

  4. Import country

RII-PYA registration, done by the SCRAP or by the producer

Spain's industry ministry keeps the battery register (RII-PYA). Every importer of batteries has to be registered and declared as a producer; a collective scheme may file for its members, otherwise the producer files online with an electronic signature or Cl@ve. The register number that comes back must be printed on the producer's invoices.

What Anxin does: We ask the Spanish importer for its RII-PYA number and whether its SCRAP filed the registration, then carry the number on the documents we prepare for Vigo.

  5. Import country

The importer's name and address on the battery

A battery entering Spain has to identify its importer: name, registered trade name or trade mark, postal address and a contact point belong on the battery itself, or on the packaging or accompanying document when the battery is too small. That text is fixed at the factory, not at Vigo.

What Anxin does: We pass the Spain importer's name and address block to the manufacturer before the goods are packed in China and check carton or battery photos for it before loading.

Documents & compliance

Documents to line up for Shenzhen → Vigo

These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

Before loading in Shenzhen

  • Confirmation from the carrier of the DG cut-off at Yantian or Shekou, rechecked in typhoon weeks
  • Battery quantity and chemistry listed separately for batteries in equipment
  • EU declaration of conformity and CE marking photo from the manufacturer
  • Importer name, trade name and postal address printed on battery or packaging
  • Annex V safety documentation confirmed for stationary storage systems

For the shipping line

  • Routing (Red Sea or Cape) and any war-risk surcharge stated on the booking
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)

Send the file once, complete

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Shenzhen filings, the carrier booking and the Spain import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Shenzhen → Vigo: questions we are asked

The importer's: name, registered trade name or trade mark and postal address with a contact point, on the battery or, if it is too small, on the packaging or accompanying document.

Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.

Yes, provided a certified packing inspector supervises the stuffing and signs the container packing certificate. Since May 2026 Yantian and Dongguan MSA have also piloted joint factory inspection so the container can be loaded at Yantian without reopening; we check whether your shipment can use it.
