Lithium batteries for Fredericia go through Tianjin, with its Beijiang and Dongjiang terminals on the Bohai Bay. On the way they face a long Europe voyage extended through the Danish straits into the Baltic, and they arrive at the port of Fredericia.

The Danish side adds the producer responsibility register to the EU battery rules. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

  • Tianjin Xingang export
  • Factory-supervised loading
  • Consignee EORI
  • EU declaration of conformity
  • Dansk Producentansvar registration

Route profile

How Tianjin → Fredericia differs from other lanes

Origin port

Tianjin (Xingang)

North China's main container gateway, where Tianjin Customs lets DG containers be inspected at the factory and loaded on arrival within a booked port slot, and where the Bohai Bay freezes at its edges in mid-winter.

Sea corridor

Asia – Baltic via the Danish straits

The Baltic is reached only through the Danish straits, where deep-draught ships are advised to take pilots, and its northern ports set ice-class restrictions every winter.

Where this route gets difficult

5 points to plan for on the Tianjin → Fredericia route

They run from the Tianjin terminal through the voyage to Fredericia and the Denmark import file.

  1. Origin port

Tianjin's supervised factory loading and port slots

Under Tianjin Customs' 'supervised factory loading, direct loading on port arrival' model, officers supervise stuffing at the factory, the declaration is lodged early through the single window, and the box enters the port in a slot booked on the customs–port platform before going straight to the ship; inspections take place in closed yards at the Beijiang and Dongjiang terminals. The gain holds only if stuffing date, slot and declared data agree.

What Anxin does: We fix the stuffing date against the vessel's DG cut-off first, then book the entry slot, and check that the declaration, the packing certificate and the container number agree before the truck leaves, so the box is not diverted to an inspection yard for a data mismatch.

  2. Sea corridor

EU emissions trading now covers the whole inbound voyage share

Ships of 5,000 GT and above calling at EU ports, Fredericia included, are in the EU Emissions Trading System: 50% of the emissions of a voyage from China are covered, and the share of emissions for which lines must surrender allowances rises from 70% (for 2025 emissions) to 100% from 2027. Carriers can pass that cost on as a surcharge.

What Anxin does: We ask for the emissions surcharge to be shown as its own line in the quote, with the basis the carrier uses, so that successive quotes can be compared like for like.

  3. Import country

Battery label from August 2026, QR code from February 2027

Two marking dates fall into current shipping plans for Denmark: the general label from 18 August 2026 and the QR code from 18 February 2027, which for EV, LMT and larger industrial batteries has to open the battery passport.

What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Denmark importer to confirm the battery category and whether the label and QR-code elements are already on the goods, and compare carton photos with that answer.

  4. Import country

Instructions and safety information in the language of Denmark

Importers must make sure batteries come with instructions and safety information in a language end-users in Denmark easily understand, as that Member State decides. Printed inserts and carton text are far easier to change before the goods are packed in China.

What Anxin does: We ask the importer which language Denmark requires and check carton and insert photos against it before loading.

  5. Import country

Mercury, cadmium and lead limits in portable batteries

Annex I of the Battery Regulation caps mercury at 0.0005 %, cadmium at 0.002 % and lead at 0.01 % by weight in portable batteries, and the lead limit has applied since 18 August 2024. Market surveillance in Denmark can ask the importer to show that the goods meet these limits.

What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer for its substance declaration or test report reference and file it with the shipping documents for the Denmark importer; we do not test batteries.

Documents & compliance

Documents to line up for Tianjin → Fredericia

Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

At the Tianjin end

  • Stuffing date, port-entry slot and DG cut-off at Tianjin agreed in that order
  • Importer name, trade name and postal address printed on battery or packaging
  • Annex V safety documentation confirmed for stationary storage systems
  • Substance declaration covering mercury, cadmium and lead limits
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report

For the carrier and the voyage

  • Transhipment port, feeder operator and feeder DG acceptance named on the booking
  • Consignee EORI and HS-level description to the ENS filer before loading
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type

For the importer in Denmark

  • Label and QR-code status against the August 2026 and February 2027 dates
  • Haulier in Denmark briefed with UN number, class 9 and tunnel code (E) for the road leg
  • Dansk Producentansvar registration (or Danish authorised representative)

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Tianjin filings, the carrier booking and the Denmark import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Common questions on the Tianjin → Fredericia route

24 hours before the container is loaded in China, not before it reaches Fredericia. Without it carriers do not load the box, and a filing without an EORI number is rejected.

Often, but it depends on the service. The Baltic is reached through the Danish straits, and we ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and confirm DG acceptance for each vessel.

Tianjin Customs offers a 'supervised factory loading, direct loading on port arrival' model: stuffing is supervised at the factory, the box enters the port in a booked slot and is loaded directly. Whether a given shipment can use it depends on the customs arrangement for the exporter and the port slot; we check both when you book.
