Tianjin to Sohar

This route runs through Tianjin, with its Beijiang and Dongjiang terminals on the Bohai Bay, then follows an Arabian Sea passage towards the Gulf; at the far end is Sohar, where the agent's DG manifest goes to both Port Control and the Marine Safety Officer.
On the Omani side the electronic manifest has to be in Bayan a day and a half before the ship. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.
What we need to start
Route profile
The Arabian Sea in the monsoon season, GNSS jamming near the Gulf of Oman and, for ports inside the Gulf, a Hormuz passage rated SEVERE in September 2026.
Oman's Bayan single window now wants the manifest 36 hours before the ship arrives.

Where this route gets difficult
Listed from loading in Tianjin to import into Oman, each with what we do about it.
Every winter the Bohai Sea ices over, and the Haihe estuary at Tianjin is one of the harder-hit areas. For 2021/22 the national marine forecast centre put the peak ice period between mid-January and mid-February, with floating ice about 5 nautical miles out in Bohai Bay. Ice and cold slow port work just as the Chinese New Year peak arrives.
What Anxin does: For January and February sailings from Tianjin we add slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off and confirm the vessel's berthing window with the carrier the week before loading.
In July 2026 Tianjin MSA acknowledged that long document reviews under its traditional model often caused firms to miss the vessel's document cut-off, leaving cargo in port for another ship. The new appointment-based green channel, more than 50% faster with a fixed document list, is for new-energy-vehicle cargo; battery shipments should not count on it.
What Anxin does: We submit the cargo report with the full document set (safe-carriage declaration, SDS, packing certificate, packaging certificate) days before the cut-off rather than on the day, and treat any MSA query as same-day work.
The JMIC reports persistent GNSS jamming and spoofing across the Hormuz approaches, the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Gulf, and rates the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea MODERATE. Anomalous AIS positions and speeds are reported in the same areas, so vessel positions shown in tracking tools are less reliable there.
What Anxin does: We rely on the carrier's own schedule updates rather than third-party AIS positions when we give you an arrival estimate for Sohar.
At SOHAR Port the agent sends the dangerous cargo manifest to the Port Control Centre and the Marine Safety Officer before arrival, and Port Control then accepts the vessel or not. Class 9 batteries do not need the four-ministry approval required for classes 1 and 7, but they have to be on that manifest correctly, with an MSDS in the vessel's documents.
What Anxin does: We make sure the class 9 details and SDS the carrier holds for Sohar match the shipper's declaration before the ship leaves Tianjin.
Since 3 May 2026, under Royal Decree No. 28/2026, shipping agents must file the cargo manifest electronically in Bayan, Oman's customs single window, at least 36 hours before the vessel reaches port, and Oman Customs has said it will take legal measures against late filers. The battery container's DG data are part of that manifest.
What Anxin does: We give the carrier the UN number, class, packages and weights at booking so the Bayan manifest for Sohar is not waiting on our data.

Documents & compliance
Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Tianjin export filings, the carrier booking and the Oman import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ice or cold spell slows berthing in mid-winter | Bohai Bay, Jan–Feb | Slack between stuffing and cut-off; berthing window reconfirmed | Carrier, monitored by Anxin |
| Document review runs past the vessel cut-off; cargo re-allocated to a later ship | Tianjin MSA review | Complete document set filed days before cut-off | Anxin with the declarant |
| Manifest error delays vessel entry | SOHAR Port | DG data checked before departure | Agent / carrier |
| Late manifest in Bayan | Oman Customs | DG data to the carrier at booking | Carrier / agent |
Questions
The agent sends the dangerous cargo manifest to the Port Control Centre and Marine Safety Officer before arrival; Port Control then accepts the vessel.
Between June and September India's southwest monsoon brings rough seas and squalls to the Arabian Sea that regularly disrupt port operations, so we check blocking and bracing on the stuffing photos and allow slack in the delivery plan.
The green channel Tianjin MSA announced in July 2026 is for new-energy-vehicle cargo. For battery containers we plan on the normal review and file early, because Tianjin MSA has said long reviews under the traditional model often cost firms their vessel cut-off.
