What to watch between Xiamen and El Dekheila: 5 points

In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at El Dekheila and at customs in Egypt.

  1. Origin port

    Xiamen ESS on multipurpose vessels and class 9 berths

    Xiamen's energy-storage transport guide 2.0 (August 2026) notes that some ESS containers sail on multipurpose ships and calls for a pre-voyage meeting with the terminal and lashing contractors. It names the terminals qualified for class 9: Xiamen Hyundai terminal, Yuanhai Tongda, and Haixiang berths 7–8.

    What Anxin does: For ESS units we confirm early whether the carrier offers container-ship or multipurpose carriage, which qualified terminal is used, and who attends the pre-voyage meeting.

  2. Origin port

    Strong winds in the Taiwan Strait from day one

    Leaving Xiamen, ships are in the Taiwan Strait at once. A Chinese government weather account says the strait's funnel effect adds 1–2 Beaufort levels to the wind, and that the north-east monsoon of winter and spring brings force 7 or more on about two days in three. Lashing on container ships should be secured accordingly.

    What Anxin does: From October to April we apply the CINS blocking and bracing checks strictly on stuffing photos before sealing.

  3. Sea corridor

    Suez is the likelier routing for El Dekheila

    Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea 57% of the time in September 2026 according to Sea-Intelligence, compared with 27% for North Europe, so a box for El Dekheila most probably goes via Suez and through Bab el-Mandeb. The JMIC rated that strait SUBSTANTIAL on 24 September 2026; the Houthis call their blockade selective and now hold Perim Island in the channel.

    What Anxin does: We ask the carrier which routing its service to El Dekheila uses and name it on the quote, together with any war-risk or emergency surcharge.

  4. Destination port

    Seven days in port, with Civil Protection approval

    Decision No. 2171/2020 for Alexandria and El Dekheila says dangerous-goods containers may not be discharged without the Civil Protection Administration's approval, and that it may let them stay in port for no more than 7 days before they move to an external facility under its supervision. The DG manifest must be in 48 hours before berthing.

    What Anxin does: We line up the importer's clearance and haulage before the ship reaches El Dekheila, so the container can leave inside the 7-day window.

  5. Import country

    A new Importers Register regime since July 2026

    Egypt replaced its Importers Register rules with Ministerial Decree No. 271 of 2026 from 22 July 2026. GOEIC decides on complete applications within 15 days, is moving registration, renewals and data updates online, and now allows time-limited registration for companies below 51% Egyptian ownership. A buyer whose entry has lapsed or is still pending cannot import the goods in its own name.

    What Anxin does: We ask the Egyptian buyer to confirm its Importers Register status before we book the container for El Dekheila.
