South China Sea · Malacca Strait · Indian Ocean · Bab-el-Mandeb · Suez Canal · Strait of Gibraltar · English Channel · Danish Straits
From Xiamen to Gdynia, cargo moves out of Xiamen's Haicang and Songyu terminals on the Taiwan Strait, crosses a long Europe voyage extended through the Danish straits into the Baltic, and is discharged at a Baltic port where the harbour master sets conditions for handling each dangerous-goods cargo.
The Polish side adds the BDO number to the EU battery rules. The 6 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.
What we need to start
Route profile
Fujian's battery gateway, handling more than 90% of the province's lithium battery exports, with 10-minute online packaging appraisal for compliant products and the Taiwan Strait's winter monsoon on the doorstep.
Dangerous goods declared through Poland's National Single Window 24 hours before arrival, with the harbour master's consent and conditions for handling.

Where this route gets difficult
Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Gdynia and the Poland market.
Xiamen Customs now issues the packaging use-appraisal certificate for lithium batteries through the single window after automatic pre-review matching: about 10 minutes in the case reported in August 2026, against roughly half a day for the old on-site inspection. The fast path is only for products that pass pre-review as compliant and valid; anything that does not match goes back to inspection.
What Anxin does: We check the product data, UN38.3 summary and packaging codes against the application before it is submitted, so the certificate comes through pre-review rather than falling back to an on-site check.
Ships leaving Xiamen enter the Taiwan Strait straight away. A Chinese government weather account notes that the strait's funnel effect makes winds 1–2 Beaufort levels stronger than outside it, and that the winter and spring north-east monsoon brings force 7 or stronger winds on about two-thirds of days. Container ships are advised to secure lashing.
What Anxin does: From October to April we apply the CINS blocking and bracing checks strictly on stuffing photos before sealing.
Ships of 5,000 GT and above calling at EU ports, Gdynia included, are in the EU Emissions Trading System: 50% of the emissions of a voyage from China are covered, and the share of emissions for which lines must surrender allowances rises from 70% (for 2025 emissions) to 100% from 2027. Carriers can pass that cost on as a surcharge.
What Anxin does: We ask for the emissions surcharge to be shown as its own line in the quote, with the basis the carrier uses, so that successive quotes can be compared like for like.
In the ports supervised by the Maritime Office in Gdynia, the dangerous goods on an arriving ship are declared through the National Single Window at least 24 hours ahead, or on departure from the previous port on a short leg, which is common for Baltic feeders. The harbour master then gives consent and sets conditions for entry and handling.
What Anxin does: Because most Chinese cargo reaches Gdynia by feeder, we check the DG data are final before the mainline ship leaves Xiamen, so the feeder's declaration is not built on a draft.
Article 11 of the Battery Regulation says that from 18 February 2027 portable batteries inside appliances must be readily removable and replaceable by the end-user using commercially available tools, without heat or solvents, except under limited derogations. Appliances sold in Poland after that date need a design that complies.
What Anxin does: When appliances with built-in batteries are booked for Poland we point the importer to the February 2027 date so the manufacturer answers the design question before shipment; we do not assess compliance.
For Gdynia, EU security pre-filing happens at the other end of the voyage: the ICS2 entry summary must reach the system 24 hours before the container is loaded in Xiamen. No filing means no loading, and a missing EORI number is enough to reject it.
What Anxin does: We collect the consignee's EORI number, an HS-level goods description and the house-bill parties at booking, and make sure the party filing the ENS has them before the Xiamen cut-off.

Documents & compliance
Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Xiamen filings, the carrier booking and the Poland import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Application fails pre-review and falls back to on-site inspection | Xiamen Customs | Data checked against the application first | Anxin with the manufacturer |
| Cargo shift in winter monsoon seas | Taiwan Strait, Oct–Apr | CINS blocking and bracing checked on photos | Packing site, checked by Anxin |
| Emissions surcharge changes between quote and sailing | EU port call | Surcharge shown as a separate line | Carrier, checked by Anxin |
| Feeder's declaration differs from the mainline booking | Port of Gdynia | DG data final before the mainline departure | Carrier / agent |
| ENS not filed and the box is refused at loading | Loading port, Xiamen | EORI and house-bill data passed to the filer at booking | Filer (carrier / forwarder) |
Questions
Through the National Single Window, at least 24 hours before arrival or at departure from the previous port on a shorter voyage; the harbour master then sets conditions for entry and handling.
Often, but it depends on the service. The Baltic is reached through the Danish straits, and we ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and confirm DG acceptance for each vessel.
For products that pass automatic pre-review, Xiamen Customs issues it through the single window; the case reported in August 2026 took about 10 minutes, against about half a day for the old on-site inspection. Products that do not pass pre-review still need inspection.
