Belarus sits at the western end of the broad-gauge network that starts at the Kazakh border with China, so a container for Minsk can stay on 1,520 mm track from Dostyk to the consignee. The country is also where most China–Europe trains wait to cross into Poland, and that queue affects anything that shares the same lines.

At a glance

Belarus: three facts that shape the lane

Terminal

A new rail terminal at Great Stone

The industrial park near Minsk National Airport said in August 2026 that it planned to receive its first train from China at its new terminal in October, with the full project due in 2028.1

Brest

The Polish border shapes traffic on the Belarusian network

Poland closed its border with Belarus on 12 September 2025, and POLITICO described the shutdown as hitting the route that moves about 90% of rail freight between China and the EU.2

Road rules

ADR in force since 1993

Belarus acceded to ADR on 5 April 1993,3 so the truck from the rail terminal to a Minsk warehouse runs under the European road agreement.

The corridor

Two transit countries before the Belarusian border

A Minsk-bound train from Xinjiang crosses Kazakhstan and Russia first. From mid-September 2025 Kazakh authorities inspected almost every Russia-bound transit shipment, and rail traffic only began to stabilise at the end of October.4 For EU persons, Regulation 765/2006 as amended prohibits supplying the goods in Annex Va to Belarus, and that annex lists lithium cells of up to 350 Wh/kg while excluding batteries.5

We quote Belarus lanes case by case, once the cargo, the parties and the operator have been screened. Lithium batteries are subject to operator and country acceptance on every leg, and nothing on this page describes a scheduled service.

Questions

Belarus: questions we are asked

Yes, case by case, after the cargo, the parties and the operator's acceptance have been screened.

Annex Va to Regulation 765/2006 lists cells of up to 350 Wh/kg and excludes batteries; it binds EU persons.5

Yes. Belarus acceded on 5 April 1993.3

Sea routes

Nine Chinese ports, one hub

Sea freight leaves from Shenzhen, Shanghai, Ningbo, Qingdao, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Dalian and Lianyungang. See all sea routes from China.

Choosing a mode

Each mode accepts lithium batteries on its own terms

Rail, road and sea operators apply different acceptance rules, and a shipment that is refused on one mode can sometimes be planned on another. We screen the cargo first and name the mode afterwards.
