This route runs from Liaoning through Dalian's Dayaowan terminals, then follows a Suez corridor that Mediterranean services are using again more than any other Asia–Europe lane; at the far end is the port of Vassiliko Bay.

Cyprus applies the EU Battery Regulation, starting with registration in its own national producer register. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.

What we need to start

  • Winter ice & spring fog
  • Dalian Dayaowan export
  • Consignee EORI
  • National producer registration
  • EU declaration of conformity

Route profile

The Dalian → Vassiliko Bay route in brief

Origin port

Dalian (Dayaowan)

North-east China's battery gateway at Dayaowan, with a small but growing lithium export flow, a local MSA that has named misdeclaration as its main problem, and both winter ice and spring fog.

Sea corridor

Asia – Mediterranean via Suez

Mediterranean services are the ones most likely to use Suez again (57% in September 2026), which puts the cargo back through Bab el-Mandeb, rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat.

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Dalian and Vassiliko Bay: 5 points

Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Vassiliko Bay and the Cyprus market.

  1. Origin port

Fewer battery sailings from Dalian under JT/T 1543

Dalian's battery flow is modest: Dalian MSA recorded 885 TEU of lithium battery exports in the first four months of 2025, and Liaoning's first export under JT/T 1543 left Dayaowan on 4 May 2025. Carriers should refuse batteries that fail JT/T 1543, and a thin flow leaves fewer alternative sailings when a booking is turned down.

What Anxin does: We check JT/T 1543 conformity evidence with the manufacturer before booking and confirm the carrier's acceptance of the UN numbers in writing.

  2. Origin port

    Winter sea ice near Dayaowan

The Bohai Sea and the northern Yellow Sea freeze every winter. For 2021/22 China's marine forecast centre expected floating ice around 15 nautical miles offshore in the northern Yellow Sea, where Dayaowan is, and around 60 in Liaodong Bay, with the peak between mid-January and mid-February.

What Anxin does: For January–February sailings from Dalian we allow extra time between stuffing and the DG cut-off and reconfirm the vessel schedule the week before loading.

  3. Sea corridor

    Suez itself is working normally

The JMIC's September 2026 update rated the northern Red Sea and Suez Canal MODERATE, with the canal operating in both directions and container lines returning selectively, and the Eastern Mediterranean LOW. The risk on this corridor is concentrated at the southern entrance of the Red Sea rather than at the canal.

What Anxin does: We check before each booking whether the service has changed routing since the last quote.

  4. Import country

A producer registration in Cyprus before the first sale

The Battery Regulation makes registration national: whoever first makes batteries available in Cyprus must be entered in that Member State's producer register, and the authority has up to 12 weeks to grant a complete application. A brand based outside Cyprus cannot rely on an EU registration held elsewhere; it needs an authorised representative for producer responsibility in Cyprus.

What Anxin does: At booking we ask which company is the producer of record in Cyprus and for its registration number there, so a missing registration surfaces while the goods are still in Dalian rather than after discharge in Vassiliko Bay.

  5. Import country

User-replaceable batteries in appliances from 18 February 2027

Article 11 of the Battery Regulation says that from 18 February 2027 portable batteries inside appliances must be readily removable and replaceable by the end-user using commercially available tools, without heat or solvents, except under limited derogations. Appliances sold in Cyprus after that date need a design that complies.

What Anxin does: When appliances with built-in batteries are booked for Cyprus we point the importer to the February 2027 date so the manufacturer answers the design question before shipment; we do not assess compliance.

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Dalian export filings, the carrier booking and the Cyprus import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Questions about shipping from Dalian to Vassiliko Bay

ADR, which the EU applies to domestic journeys through Directive 2008/68/EC. UN 3480 is class 9, transport category 2, with tunnel restriction code (E).

Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.

Sea ice forms every winter in the northern Yellow Sea; in 2021/22 it was forecast to reach about 15 nautical miles out there, peaking mid-January to mid-February. We plan extra time for those weeks.
