This route runs through Guangzhou's Nansha terminals, which since September 2026 accept Dongguan-inspected battery boxes without a second check, then follows a lane whose routing, Suez or Cape of Good Hope, is decided service by service; at the far end is the port of Cherbourg.
France asks for a batteries IDU and eco-organisme membership before the first sale. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.
What we need to start
Route profile
The map shows the Suez corridor, but in September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sails round the Cape of Good Hope.
A SYDEREP IDU and eco-organisme membership for every battery category, with EU duties from CE marking to the importer's address on the battery.

Where this route gets difficult
Listed from loading in Guangzhou to import into France, each with what we do about it.
The Hong Kong Observatory puts the region's tropical cyclone season from June to October, busiest July to September. Nansha sits at the mouth of the Pearl River; a closed gate or a changed vessel means the DG filings and the packing certificate have to follow the box to a new sailing.
What Anxin does: From June to October we leave slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off at Nansha and refile quickly if the vessel changes.
Since 22 September 2026 Guangzhou MSA accepts Dongguan MSA's factory inspection for boxes loading at Nansha and re-inspects only when necessary. The first container was stuffed in Dongguan that day and left Nansha for Singapore on 24 September. Because the arrangement is new at Nansha, the factory record needs to be correct the first time.
What Anxin does: We ask at booking whether your Dongguan factory can use the Nansha one-box arrangement and make sure the stuffing photos, packing certificate and DG declaration match, because a mismatch is the 'necessary' case that brings the second inspection back.
The map on this page shows the corridor through Bab-el-Mandeb and Suez, but Sea-Intelligence figures for September 2026 put Red Sea routing on the Asia–Europe head-haul at 13–25%, with 27% for North Europe services and 57% for the Mediterranean. The service that calls at Cherbourg decides between Suez and the Cape of Good Hope, and with it the distance, the waters and the possible transhipment ports.
What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to state the routing and any transhipment port on the booking confirmation, and we quote the two routings separately when both are on offer rather than mixing them.
Every producer in a French REP stream has needed a unique identifier since 2022, and it is the proof of registration in ADEME's SYDEREP register. When the producer joins an eco-organisme, the eco-organisme does the registration; the IDU then has to appear in the terms of sale or on the website and be given to buyers who ask.
What Anxin does: We ask the French importer for the batteries-stream IDU of whoever acts as producer before we book, so the buyer's own IDU check does not stop the goods after they reach Cherbourg.
Road delivery from Cherbourg is an ADR movement, because the EU applies ADR to domestic journeys through Directive 2008/68/EC. For UN 3480 that means class 9, transport category 2 and tunnel code (E), which restricts the route through category E tunnels; batteries found damaged at unloading move to special provision 376 packing (P908 or P911).
What Anxin does: We give the France haulier the same UN number, class and package details that appear on the sea dangerous goods declaration, so the ADR transport document matches the container paperwork from Guangzhou.

Documents & compliance
Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Guangzhou filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for France before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Cherbourg.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Second inspection at Nansha because factory records are incomplete | Dongguan factory → Nansha | Photos, packing certificate and declaration matched before trucking | Anxin |
| Typhoon closure after filings are made | Nansha, Jun–Oct | Slack in stuffing date; prompt refiling | Anxin with the declarant |
| Service switches between Suez and Cape routing | Main voyage | Routing written on the booking; quotes kept separate per routing; packing assumes the longer voyage | Carrier, tracked by Anxin |
| Buyer cannot verify an IDU and holds the order | Importer in France | IDU obtained before booking | Importer / producer |
| Road route planned through a category E tunnel | Road leg from Cherbourg | Tunnel code (E) passed to the haulier with the transport data | Haulier / forwarder |
Questions
Yes. Since 18 August 2025 all battery categories, industrial and EV included, must be covered by an approved eco-organisme or an approved individual system.
Ships of 5,000 GT and above calling at EU ports are in the EU Emissions Trading System, covering 50% of the emissions of a voyage from outside the EU. Lines must surrender allowances for 70% of 2025 emissions and 100% from 2027, and may pass the cost on as a surcharge.
Both now have a one-box arrangement with Dongguan MSA: Yantian since May 2026 and Nansha since 22 September 2026, so a container inspected at the factory need not be reopened at the terminal unless necessary. The choice then comes down to the carrier's service to your destination and the cut-offs; we compare both when you book.
