Lithium batteries for Saint-Brieuc go through Guangzhou's Nansha terminals, which since September 2026 accept Dongguan-inspected battery boxes without a second check. On the way they face a voyage that may run through Suez as drawn or round the Cape, depending on the service, and they arrive at the port of Saint-Brieuc.
The French side checks the producer's unique identifier (IDU) as well as the EU battery rules. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.
What we need to start
Route profile
Pearl River Delta battery cargo through Nansha, where a September 2026 agreement lets Dongguan-inspected containers load without a second MSA check, and where typhoon season runs June to October.
A SYDEREP IDU and eco-organisme membership for every battery category, with EU duties from CE marking to the importer's address on the battery.

Where this route gets difficult
In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Saint-Brieuc and at customs in France.
The tropical cyclone season in the region runs from June to October according to the Hong Kong Observatory, with July to September the busiest months. At Nansha, on the Pearl River mouth, a gate closure or a vessel change sends the DG filings and the packing certificate after the box to its new sailing.
What Anxin does: From June to October we leave slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off at Nansha and refile quickly if the vessel changes.
The corridor on this page is drawn through Bab-el-Mandeb and the Suez Canal. In practice, Sea-Intelligence data for September 2026 put Red Sea routing on the Asia–Europe head-haul at 13–25%: 27% for services to North Europe and 57% for Mediterranean services. Which service calls at Saint-Brieuc decides whether the box goes through Suez or round the Cape of Good Hope, and the two routings differ in length, in the waters crossed and in the ports where a box might be transhipped.
What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to state the routing and any transhipment port on the booking confirmation, and we quote the two routings separately when both are on offer rather than mixing them.
The Battery Regulation's due diligence obligations on cobalt, lithium, nickel and natural graphite were postponed by Regulation (EU) 2025/1561 and now apply from 18 August 2027, with Commission guidelines due by 26 July 2026. Buyers in France are already asking suppliers for the supply-chain data they will need.
What Anxin does: We pass the France buyer's due diligence questions to the manufacturer and keep their answers with the shipment file; the policy itself remains the producer's responsibility.
The importer in France carries the check: CE marking on the battery and an EU declaration of conformity, translated into the language France asks for, have both been required since 18 August 2024 for batteries entering the EU market.
What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer in China for the declaration of conformity and a photo of the CE marking on the battery or its packaging before loading, and pass them to the France importer. We check that the documents exist and match the goods; we do not assess conformity.
Until 2025 the French batteries stream covered portable batteries. From 18 August 2025 producers of all five categories, including industrial and EV batteries, must join an approved eco-organisme or have an individual system approved. Batribox and ecosystem hold approvals for all categories to the end of 2030; Corepile's members now deal with ecosystem.
What Anxin does: For storage and industrial packs we ask which eco-organisme covers the category, because an ESS shipment to Saint-Brieuc falls under the same rule as consumer cells.

Documents & compliance
These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Guangzhou filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for France before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Saint-Brieuc.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typhoon closure after filings are made | Nansha, Jun–Oct | Slack in stuffing date; prompt refiling | Anxin with the declarant |
| Service switches between Suez and Cape routing | Main voyage | Routing written on the booking; quotes kept separate per routing; packing assumes the longer voyage | Carrier, tracked by Anxin |
| Industrial batteries placed on the market with no eco-organisme | French REP enforcement | Category and eco-organisme confirmed at booking | Producer |
| Declaration of conformity missing or not in the required language | Importer in France | Declaration and CE photo collected before loading | Manufacturer / importer |
Questions
It is the unique identifier ADEME issues when a producer is registered in SYDEREP for a REP stream. Producers of batteries need one for the batteries stream; if they join an eco-organisme, it registers them. The IDU must be shown in the terms of sale and given to buyers on request.
Ships of 5,000 GT and above calling at EU ports are in the EU Emissions Trading System, covering 50% of the emissions of a voyage from outside the EU. Lines must surrender allowances for 70% of 2025 emissions and 100% from 2027, and may pass the cost on as a surcharge.
Both now have a one-box arrangement with Dongguan MSA: Yantian since May 2026 and Nansha since 22 September 2026, so a container inspected at the factory need not be reopened at the terminal unless necessary. The choice then comes down to the carrier's service to your destination and the cut-offs; we compare both when you book.
