Lithium batteries for Brake go through Guangzhou's Nansha terminals, which since September 2026 accept Dongguan-inspected battery boxes without a second check. On the way they face a lane whose routing, Suez or Cape of Good Hope, is decided service by service, and they arrive at the port of Brake.

Germany expects the battery to be registered, labelled and pre-declared before it is loaded in China. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Typhoon season Jun–Oct
  • Nansha export
  • Batt-Reg.-Nr. DE
  • German-language safety information
  • EU declaration of conformity

Route profile

How Guangzhou → Brake differs from other lanes

Origin port

Guangzhou (Nansha)

Pearl River Delta battery cargo through Nansha, where a September 2026 agreement lets Dongguan-inspected containers load without a second MSA check, and where typhoon season runs June to October.

Sea corridor

Asia – North & Atlantic Europe

The map shows the Suez corridor, but in September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sails round the Cape of Good Hope.

Where this route gets difficult

Where Guangzhou → Brake shipments get held up: 5 points

Listed from loading in Guangzhou to import into Germany, each with what we do about it.

  1. Origin port

Typhoon weeks at the Pearl River mouth

The Hong Kong Observatory puts the region's tropical cyclone season from June to October, busiest July to September. Nansha sits at the mouth of the Pearl River; a closed gate or a changed vessel means the DG filings and the packing certificate have to follow the box to a new sailing.

What Anxin does: From June to October we leave slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off at Nansha and refile quickly if the vessel changes.

  2. Sea corridor

EU emissions trading now covers the whole inbound voyage share

Ships of 5,000 GT and above calling at EU ports, Brake included, are in the EU Emissions Trading System: 50% of the emissions of a voyage from China are covered, and the share of emissions for which lines must surrender allowances rises from 70% (for 2025 emissions) to 100% from 2027. Carriers can pass that cost on as a surcharge.

What Anxin does: We ask for the emissions surcharge to be shown as its own line in the quote, with the basis the carrier uses, so that successive quotes can be compared like for like.

  3. Import country

ICS2 entry summary before loading, not before arrival

EU pre-arrival security filing moved to ICS2 Release 3: sea cargo needs a complete Entry Summary Declaration, and forwarders issuing house bills of lading have had to file or pass house-level data since 1 April 2025. For deep-sea containers the ENS is due 24 hours before loading at the departure port, and carriers apply 'no manifest, no load'. A missing EORI number is enough for the filing to be rejected.

What Anxin does: We collect the consignee's EORI number, a goods description at HS level and the house-level parties at booking, and make sure they reach whoever files the ENS ahead of the Guangzhou loading cut-off.

  4. Import country

    German-language instructions and safety information

The importer must make sure each battery travels with instructions and safety information in a language that end-users in the Member State easily understand, as that Member State determines. For consumer goods going to Germany, the practical reading is German-language safety text, and it has to be in the carton when the goods are placed on the market.

What Anxin does: When we review packing photos we note whether the inserts or labels show the required language, and we raise gaps with the shipper before stuffing rather than after arrival.

  5. Import country

    Substance limits for portable batteries

For portable batteries, Annex I sets maximum levels of 0.0005 % mercury, 0.002 % cadmium and 0.01 % lead by weight, the lead limit applying since 18 August 2024. The importer in Germany may be asked by market surveillance to demonstrate compliance.

What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer for its substance declaration or test report reference and file it with the shipping documents for the Germany importer; we do not test batteries.

Documents & compliance

What to have ready: Guangzhou to Brake

Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

In Guangzhou, before the box is loaded

  • EU declaration of conformity and CE marking photo from the manufacturer
  • Importer name, trade name and postal address printed on battery or packaging
  • Annex V safety documentation confirmed for stationary storage systems
  • Substance declaration covering mercury, cadmium and lead limits
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report

Carrier and voyage

  • Routing (Suez or Cape of Good Hope) and any transhipment port stated on the booking confirmation
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)
  • Lithium battery mark (SP188 cargo) or class 9 labels and placards

For the importer in Germany

  • Consignee EORI number and the party filing the ICS2 entry summary
  • Battery Regulation label / QR-code status, and battery passport where the battery is EV, LMT or industrial above 2 kWh
  • Haulier in Germany briefed with UN number, class 9 and tunnel code (E) for the road leg

Before you book

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Guangzhou filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Germany before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Brake.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Guangzhou → Brake: questions we are asked

The CE marking on the battery and the manufacturer's EU declaration of conformity, which must be available in the language Germany requires. Both have applied since 18 August 2024.

Ships of 5,000 GT and above calling at EU ports are in the EU Emissions Trading System, covering 50% of the emissions of a voyage from outside the EU. Lines must surrender allowances for 70% of 2025 emissions and 100% from 2027, and may pass the cost on as a surcharge.

Both now have a one-box arrangement with Dongguan MSA: Yantian since May 2026 and Nansha since 22 September 2026, so a container inspected at the factory need not be reopened at the terminal unless necessary. The choice then comes down to the carrier's service to your destination and the cut-offs; we compare both when you book.
