South China Sea · Malacca Strait · Indian Ocean · Bab-el-Mandeb · Suez Canal · Strait of Gibraltar · English Channel · North Sea
From Guangzhou to Nordenham, cargo moves from the Pearl River Delta via Nansha, crosses a voyage that may run through Suez as drawn or round the Cape, depending on the service, and is discharged at the port of Nordenham.
The German side adds producer registration with stiftung ear and the EU Battery Regulation's labelling calendar. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.
What we need to start
Route profile
Pearl River Delta battery cargo through Nansha, where a September 2026 agreement lets Dongguan-inspected containers load without a second MSA check, and where typhoon season runs June to October.
The map shows the Suez corridor, but in September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sails round the Cape of Good Hope.

Where this route gets difficult
They run from the Guangzhou terminal through the voyage to Nordenham and the Germany import file.
Dongguan Customs and Dongguan MSA began sharing dangerous-goods packaging certificate data in September 2026, which they called a first in China, and agreed joint action on concealed and false declarations; Huangpu Customs runs a joint 'lithium batteries going overseas' service against misdeclaration as well. A mismatch between packaging certificate and MSA filing is visible to both.
What Anxin does: We check that the UN number, packaging code and quantities on the packaging certificate are exactly those on the MSA cargo report before either is submitted.
The corridor on this page is drawn through Bab-el-Mandeb and the Suez Canal. In practice, Sea-Intelligence data for September 2026 put Red Sea routing on the Asia–Europe head-haul at 13–25%: 27% for services to North Europe and 57% for Mediterranean services. Which service calls at Nordenham decides whether the box goes through Suez or round the Cape of Good Hope, and the two routings differ in length, in the waters crossed and in the ports where a box might be transhipped.
What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to state the routing and any transhipment port on the booking confirmation, and we quote the two routings separately when both are on offer rather than mixing them.
The Battery Regulation phases in the information a battery must carry. The general information label applies from 18 August 2026 (or 18 months after the label-format implementing act, if that comes later), and every battery needs a QR code from 18 February 2027. For EV, light-means-of-transport and industrial batteries above 2 kWh, that QR code must open a battery passport. Where the battery is too small, the label goes on the packaging and documents instead. Stock that leaves Guangzhou without these elements cannot simply be relabelled on the quay in Nordenham.
What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Germany importer to confirm which battery category the goods fall into and that label, QR code and passport data are settled. We check carton and label photos against that answer; we do not certify conformity.
Once the container leaves the terminal by road, ADR applies: Directive 2008/68/EC makes EU countries use it for domestic dangerous goods journeys as well as international ones. UN 3480 is class 9, transport category 2, with tunnel restriction code (E), so the haulier in Germany has to plan around category E tunnels, and damaged or defective batteries fall under special provision 376 and packing instructions P908 or P911 instead of P903.
What Anxin does: We give the Germany haulier the same UN number, class and package details that appear on the sea dangerous goods declaration, so the ADR transport document matches the container paperwork from Guangzhou.
The Battery Regulation asks the importer to put its own name, registered trade name or trade mark and postal address, with a single contact point, on the battery. Only when the battery's size or nature makes that impossible may the details move to the packaging or an accompanying document, so a Germany importer's details need to reach the factory before printing.
What Anxin does: We pass the Germany importer's name and address block to the manufacturer before the goods are packed in China and check carton or battery photos for it before loading.

Documents & compliance
These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Guangzhou export filings, the carrier booking and the Germany import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mismatch between packaging certificate and MSA filing flagged by shared data | Dongguan / Nansha | Line-by-line check before submission | Anxin with the declarant |
| Service switches between Suez and Cape routing | Main voyage | Routing written on the booking; quotes kept separate per routing; packing assumes the longer voyage | Carrier, tracked by Anxin |
| Label or QR code missing for batteries placed on the market after the application dates | Importer's warehouse in Germany | Category and labelling confirmed by the importer before production is packed; label photos reviewed before stuffing | Importer / manufacturer |
| Road route planned through a category E tunnel | Road leg from Nordenham | Tunnel code (E) passed to the haulier with the transport data | Haulier / forwarder |
Questions
Under ICS2 Release 3 the entry summary declaration for deep-sea containers is due 24 hours before loading at the departure port, and carriers do not load boxes without it. The consignee's EORI number and the house bill of lading parties are part of that data set.
Ships of 5,000 GT and above calling at EU ports are in the EU Emissions Trading System, covering 50% of the emissions of a voyage from outside the EU. Lines must surrender allowances for 70% of 2025 emissions and 100% from 2027, and may pass the cost on as a surcharge.
Both now have a one-box arrangement with Dongguan MSA: Yantian since May 2026 and Nansha since 22 September 2026, so a container inspected at the factory need not be reopened at the terminal unless necessary. The choice then comes down to the carrier's service to your destination and the cut-offs; we compare both when you book.

We check carrier acceptance for Guangzhou → Nordenham before any booking, and ask for missing battery documents first.
