From Guangzhou to Trelleborg, cargo moves out of Nansha, at the mouth of the Pearl River, crosses a long Europe voyage extended through the Danish straits into the Baltic, and is discharged at the port of Trelleborg.
The Swedish side adds the Naturvårdsverket register to the EU battery rules. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.
What we need to start
Route profile
Pearl River Delta battery cargo through Nansha, where a September 2026 agreement lets Dongguan-inspected containers load without a second MSA check, and where typhoon season runs June to October.
The Baltic is reached only through the Danish straits, where deep-draught ships are advised to take pilots, and its northern ports set ice-class restrictions every winter.

Where this route gets difficult
Listed from loading in Guangzhou to import into Sweden, each with what we do about it.
At a July 2024 meeting on energy-storage carriage, Nansha MSA recommended shipping ESS batteries at a state of charge of around 25% and preventing accidental activation. It is a recommendation rather than a fixed rule, but it is the figure the local authority has put on record.
What Anxin does: For ESS cargo leaving Nansha we ask the manufacturer to state the shipping state of charge and the anti-activation measures in writing, and put both in the documents the carrier sees.
Ships of 5,000 GT and above calling at EU ports, Trelleborg included, are in the EU Emissions Trading System: 50% of the emissions of a voyage from China are covered, and the share of emissions for which lines must surrender allowances rises from 70% (for 2025 emissions) to 100% from 2027. Carriers can pass that cost on as a surcharge.
What Anxin does: We ask for the emissions surcharge to be shown as its own line in the quote, with the basis the carrier uses, so that successive quotes can be compared like for like.
Since 1 January 2026 battery producers in Sweden must be registered with Naturvårdsverket under the supplementary ordinance SFS 2025:813. Producer responsibility organisations such as El-Kretsen can assist with the filing, though the producer stays responsible for the data.
What Anxin does: We ask the Swedish importer to confirm the registration is in place before booking, and pass on battery chemistry and weight data it may need for reporting.
A battery entering Sweden has to identify its importer: name, registered trade name or trade mark, postal address and a contact point belong on the battery itself, or on the packaging or accompanying document when the battery is too small. That text is fixed at the factory, not at Trelleborg.
What Anxin does: We pass the Sweden importer's name and address block to the manufacturer before the goods are packed in China and check carton or battery photos for it before loading.
Regulation (EU) 2025/1561 pushed the Battery Regulation's due diligence duties for cobalt, lithium, nickel and natural graphite back to 18 August 2027 and gave the Commission until 26 July 2026 for its guidelines. Buyers in Sweden are already collecting the supply-chain information they will need.
What Anxin does: We pass the Sweden buyer's due diligence questions to the manufacturer and keep their answers with the shipment file; the policy itself remains the producer's responsibility.

Documents & compliance
Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Guangzhou filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Sweden before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Trelleborg.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Emissions surcharge changes between quote and sailing | EU port call | Surcharge shown as a separate line | Carrier, checked by Anxin |
| Producer not yet registered with Naturvårdsverket | Importer in Sweden | Registration confirmed before booking | Importer |
| Importer details missing from battery and packaging | Importer in Sweden | Address block sent to the factory before packing | Manufacturer / importer |
Questions
The CE marking on the battery and the manufacturer's EU declaration of conformity, which must be available in the language Sweden requires. Both have applied since 18 August 2024.
Often, but it depends on the service. The Baltic is reached through the Danish straits, and we ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and confirm DG acceptance for each vessel.
Nansha MSA has recommended around 25% for ESS batteries and measures against accidental activation. Treat it as the local authority's recommendation; the carrier's own acceptance conditions also apply.
