Lithium batteries for Limerick go through Lianyungang port. On the way they face a lane whose routing, Suez or Cape of Good Hope, is decided service by service, and they arrive at the port of Limerick.

Ireland requires battery producers to register with Producer Register Limited. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

  • Lianyungang export
  • Break-bulk ESS guide
  • Consignee EORI
  • EU declaration of conformity
  • PRL registration

Where this route gets difficult

5 pain points from Lianyungang to Limerick

In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Limerick and at customs in Ireland.

  1. Origin port

    Fog season at Lianyungang

Between April and July sea fog is a major marine hazard in the Yellow and Bohai Seas, the China Meteorological Administration says. Lianyungang, like Qingdao, can see vessels held at anchor by fog, and moving a box to another vessel means amending its DG filings.

What Anxin does: In fog season we keep slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off and have the filing data ready to amend.

  2. Sea corridor

Suez on the map, the Cape on most sailings

The corridor on this page is drawn through Bab-el-Mandeb and the Suez Canal. In practice, Sea-Intelligence data for September 2026 put Red Sea routing on the Asia–Europe head-haul at 13–25%: 27% for services to North Europe and 57% for Mediterranean services. Which service calls at Limerick decides whether the box goes through Suez or round the Cape of Good Hope, and the two routings differ in length, in the waters crossed and in the ports where a box might be transhipped.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to state the routing and any transhipment port on the booking confirmation, and we quote the two routings separately when both are on offer rather than mixing them.

  3. Import country

CE marking and a declaration of conformity in the right language

Since 18 August 2024 a battery sold in the EU needs the CE marking and an EU declaration of conformity from its manufacturer. The declaration has to be available in the language Ireland requires, and the importer is the one who must check both before the goods are released for sale.

What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer in China for the declaration of conformity and a photo of the CE marking on the battery or its packaging before loading, and pass them to the Ireland importer. We check that the documents exist and match the goods; we do not assess conformity.

  4. Import country

PRL registration and a compliance scheme

Ireland treats the first company to place batteries on its market as the producer, and that includes batteries inside products and distance sales. Producers register with Producer Register Limited, join an approved compliance scheme such as WEEE Ireland or ERP Ireland, and, if they have no legal presence in Ireland, act through an Irish authorised representative.

What Anxin does: We ask the Irish importer for its PRL registration and scheme before booking, so the goods are not waiting at Limerick for paperwork.

  5. Import country

Built-in portable batteries must be user-replaceable from February 2027

From 18 February 2027, Article 11 requires portable batteries built into appliances to be readily removable and replaceable by the end-user with commercially available tools, without heat or solvents, apart from limited derogations. Appliances shipped to Ireland for sale after that date need a design that meets the rule.

What Anxin does: When appliances with built-in batteries are booked for Ireland we point the importer to the February 2027 date so the manufacturer answers the design question before shipment; we do not assess compliance.

Before you book

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Lianyungang filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Ireland before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Limerick.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
