Where this route gets difficult

6 points to plan for on the Qingdao → Vassiliko Bay route

  1. Origin port

    One filing for transhipment between Qingdao terminals

    Qingdao MSA's 'one-document, one-box' pilot has since November 2024 covered water-to-water transhipment of lithium batteries and other 'new three' cargo between Dagang and Qianwan, with one outbound cargo report and no more than one packing inspection within the pilot ports. In the launch case, three cargo and three ship reports became one cargo and two ship reports.

    What Anxin does: If your cargo is stuffed at a Dagang yard or reaches Qianwan by water, we check at booking whether it qualifies for the pilot and file once, so the box is not reopened between terminals.

  2. Origin port

    Shandong's provincial guide for ESS

    ESS units loading at Qingdao fall under a Shandong MSA waterway safe-transport guide written for lithium battery energy storage systems at the province's coastal ports, so preparation should follow that guide alongside the IMDG Code.

    What Anxin does: For ESS cargo we review the unit's packing and securing plan against the Shandong guide with the packing site before booking.

  3. Sea corridor

    The canal is open; the risk sits further south

    The JMIC's September 2026 update put the northern Red Sea and the Suez Canal at MODERATE, with two-way transits and container lines selectively returning, and the Eastern Mediterranean at LOW. On this corridor the exposure lies at the southern entrance of the Red Sea, not at the canal itself.

    What Anxin does: We check before each booking whether the service has changed routing since the last quote.

  4. Import country

    CE marking and a declaration of conformity in the right language

    Since 18 August 2024 a battery sold in the EU needs the CE marking and an EU declaration of conformity from its manufacturer. The declaration has to be available in the language Cyprus requires, and the importer is the one who must check both before the goods are released for sale.

    What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer in China for the declaration of conformity and a photo of the CE marking on the battery or its packaging before loading, and pass them to the Cyprus importer. We check that the documents exist and match the goods; we do not assess conformity.

  5. Import country

    Battery label from August 2026, QR code from February 2027

    Two marking dates fall into current shipping plans for Cyprus: the general label from 18 August 2026 and the QR code from 18 February 2027, which for EV, LMT and larger industrial batteries has to open the battery passport.

    What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Cyprus importer to confirm the battery category and whether the label and QR-code elements are already on the goods, and compare carton photos with that answer.

  6. Import country

    Due diligence on battery raw materials from August 2027

    Regulation (EU) 2025/1561 pushed the Battery Regulation's due diligence duties for cobalt, lithium, nickel and natural graphite back to 18 August 2027 and gave the Commission until 26 July 2026 for its guidelines. Buyers in Cyprus are already collecting the supply-chain information they will need.

    What Anxin does: We pass the Cyprus buyer's due diligence questions to the manufacturer and keep their answers with the shipment file; the policy itself remains the producer's responsibility.
