This route runs through Qingdao's Qianwan terminals, then follows a Suez-or-Cape voyage that ends with the Danish straits and the Baltic; at the far end is the port of Swinoujscie.
The Polish side adds the BDO number to the EU battery rules. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.
What we need to start
Route profile
The Baltic is reached only through the Danish straits, where deep-draught ships are advised to take pilots, and its northern ports set ice-class restrictions every winter.
A BDO register entry for battery introducers with its number on the documents, and the EU-wide battery and ICS2 duties.

Where this route gets difficult
Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Swinoujscie and the Poland market.
The China Meteorological Administration describes sea fog as one of the major marine hazards of the Yellow and Bohai Seas, with the season mainly from April to July and a serious effect on sea transport. Fog holds at Qingdao can move a battery box to another vessel, and the DG filings have to move with it.
What Anxin does: In fog season we leave slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off at Qianwan and keep the cargo report ready to amend quickly if the vessel changes.
Every box for Swinoujscie passes the Danish straits, where IMO recommends pilotage on Route T for ships with a draught of 11 m or more and the Danish Maritime Authority reports non-compliant ships to their flag state. If the container is moved to a feeder at a North Sea port, that second vessel must also accept the UN numbers.
What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and the feeder operator on the booking and confirm DG acceptance for that leg as well as the mainline.
Poland tracks battery introducers through the BDO waste database: an importer needs its entry in the battery section before placing batteries on the market, and the BDO number goes on the documents used to trade them. Buyers often check for it on the invoice.
What Anxin does: We ask the Polish importer for its BDO number and put it on the commercial documents we prepare with the shipper.
An importer has to ensure that batteries are accompanied by instructions and safety information in a language that end-users in Poland can easily understand, as the Member State determines. Inserts and carton print are much simpler to adjust before packing in China.
What Anxin does: We ask the importer which language Poland requires and check carton and insert photos against it before loading.
Stationary battery energy storage systems placed on the EU market since 18 August 2024 must be safe in normal operation, with technical documentation showing tests against the Annex V parameters, including thermal shock, short-circuit protection, over-discharge and thermal propagation. ESS buyers in Poland increasingly ask for that file before delivery.
What Anxin does: For ESS cabinets and racks bound for Poland we ask the manufacturer to confirm that the Annex V test documentation exists before booking and note the answer in the shipment file.

Documents & compliance
Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Qingdao filings, the carrier booking and the Poland import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fog hold forces a vessel change after filing | Qingdao, Apr–Jul | Slack in schedule; amendment-ready filing | Anxin with the declarant |
| Feeder operator does not accept the UN numbers | North Sea hub | DG acceptance for the feeder leg confirmed | Anxin with the carrier |
| Importer without a BDO entry for batteries | Importer in Poland | BDO number confirmed before booking | Importer |
| Storage system delivered without Annex V test file | Buyer in Poland | Test documentation confirmed before booking | Manufacturer |
Questions
An entry in the BDO register as a business introducing batteries, obtained before placing them on the market. Its BDO number goes on the trading documents.
Often, but it depends on the service. The Baltic is reached through the Danish straits, and we ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and confirm DG acceptance for each vessel.
Mainly April to July, according to the China Meteorological Administration, which calls sea fog a major hazard for Yellow Sea transport.
