Lithium batteries for Kristiansund go from the Yangtze River Delta via Shanghai's Yangshan and Waigaoqiao terminals. On the way they face a voyage that may run through Suez as drawn or round the Cape, depending on the service, and they arrive at the port of Kristiansund.

On the Norwegian side, Digitoll, SafeSeaNet reporting and national battery marking all apply. The 6 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Yangshan / Waigaoqiao export
  • Photo-verified packing certificate
  • EU declaration of conformity
  • Return company membership
  • Norwegian-language safety information

Route profile

The Shanghai → Kristiansund route in brief

Origin port

Shanghai (Yangshan / Waigaoqiao)

Yangshan and Waigaoqiao exports under Shanghai MSA's photo-verified packing system, where a mismatch between photos and EDI data keeps a DG box off the ship.

Sea corridor

Asia – North & Atlantic Europe

The map shows the Suez corridor, but in September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sails round the Cape of Good Hope.

Where this route gets difficult

6 pain points from Shanghai to Kristiansund

Listed from loading in Shanghai to import into Norway, each with what we do about it.

  1. Origin port

Not every Shanghai warehouse can stuff lithium DG

Shanghai MSA's 2024 draft reporting guide says warehouses that stuff lithium battery dangerous goods must provide fire-department proof of their fire hazard classification and fire-resistance rating. The site's information must also be up to date on the Shanghai single window, which took over MSA account and site records in 2026.

What Anxin does: We only propose stuffing sites that can show the fire-safety documents and are on Shanghai MSA's system; if you use your own warehouse, we check this before booking.

  2. Origin port

Shanghai checks during and after the voyage filing, not just before

Shanghai MSA's Notice No. 4 of 2024 accepts either an inspector-signed packing certificate or a packing declaration from the stuffing company, but places the burden on the shipper: the batteries must meet the UN tests and be protected against damage, short circuit and accidental activation, and MSA runs spot checks during and after the process, with proof to be produced on request.

What Anxin does: We keep a file per container (UN38.3 summary, SDS, packing photos, terminal protection details) so that proof can be produced the same day if Shanghai MSA asks for it after sailing.

  3. Sea corridor

Suez on the map, the Cape on most sailings

The corridor on this page is drawn through Bab-el-Mandeb and the Suez Canal. In practice, Sea-Intelligence data for September 2026 put Red Sea routing on the Asia–Europe head-haul at 13–25%: 27% for services to North Europe and 57% for Mediterranean services. Which service calls at Kristiansund decides whether the box goes through Suez or round the Cape of Good Hope, and the two routings differ in length, in the waters crossed and in the ports where a box might be transhipped.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to state the routing and any transhipment port on the booking confirmation, and we quote the two routings separately when both are on offer rather than mixing them.

  4. Import country

Digitoll: cargo data 24 hours before the first Norwegian call

Since 15 September 2026 Norwegian Customs requires the sea reporting duty to be filed digitally: vessel and cargo data at least 24 hours before the ship's first call in Norway, as linked transport, master and house consignment messages. The importer's declaration in TVINN is due at the latest when the goods reach Kristiansund, and can be sent up to five days ahead.

What Anxin does: We give the carrier and the Norwegian customs agent matching house-bill data, and ask the importer who files the TVINN declaration, so the house consignment for Kristiansund links to it before arrival.

  5. Import country

Hazardous cargo report in SafeSeaNet Norway

Every vessel carrying hazardous or noxious cargo must report it in SafeSeaNet Norway at least 24 hours before arriving at a Norwegian port, with the cargo correctly categorised and a manifest or cargo plan showing where the dangerous goods are stowed. The data comes from the shipper's declaration, so an error made in Shanghai travels all the way to Kristiansund.

What Anxin does: We check that the UN number, class and package count on our dangerous goods declaration match the booking, so the carrier's SafeSeaNet report for Kristiansund is built on consistent data.

  6. Import country

    Marking under Norway's product regulation

While Norway waits for the EU rules, batteries are marked under the Norwegian product regulation: the crossed-out waste container, Hg, Cd or Pb symbols above set thresholds, and capacity marking for certain battery types. Under the waste regulation the importer must also be a member of an approved battery return company.

What Anxin does: We compare carton and battery photos against the Norwegian marking list before loading and ask the importer to confirm its return company.

Documents & compliance

Checklist for Shanghai → Kristiansund

Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

At the Shanghai end

  • Stuffing site registered and geo-verified with Shanghai MSA; fire-safety proof for lithium DG warehouses
  • Per-container evidence file (UN38.3 summary, SDS, photos, short-circuit protection) kept for Shanghai MSA spot checks
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing

For the shipping line

  • Routing (Suez or Cape of Good Hope) and any transhipment port stated on the booking confirmation
  • Condition statement: new, used, damaged/defective (SP376) or for recycling (SP377)
  • Dangerous goods data consistent for the carrier's SafeSeaNet Norway report

For import into Norway

  • House consignment data for Digitoll and the TVINN declarant confirmed before arrival
  • Return company (producer responsibility) membership of the Norwegian importer
  • Norwegian haulier briefed with UN 3480 class 9 and tunnel code (E)

Before you book

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Shanghai export filings, the carrier booking and the Norway import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Shanghai → Kristiansund: questions we are asked

Since 15 September 2026 vessel and cargo information must be filed digitally at least 24 hours before the first Norwegian call, and the importer's TVINN declaration is due by arrival at the discharge port.

It depends on the service. In September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sailed round the Cape of Good Hope; Sea-Intelligence put the Red Sea share for North Europe vessels at 27%. We ask the carrier to confirm the routing on the booking and quote each routing separately.

Shanghai MSA's Notice No. 4 of 2024 accepts either an inspector-signed packing certificate or a packing declaration issued by the stuffing company. Either way, the shipper remains responsible and must provide proof if MSA spot-checks.
