This route runs from the Yangtze River Delta via Shanghai's Yangshan and Waigaoqiao terminals, then follows a long Europe voyage extended through the Danish straits into the Baltic; at the far end is the port of Trelleborg.

The Swedish side adds the Naturvårdsverket register to the EU battery rules. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

  • Yangshan / Waigaoqiao export
  • Photo-verified packing certificate
  • Consignee EORI
  • EU declaration of conformity
  • Naturvårdsverket registration

Route profile

How Shanghai → Trelleborg differs from other lanes

Origin port

Shanghai (Yangshan / Waigaoqiao)

Yangshan and Waigaoqiao exports under Shanghai MSA's photo-verified packing system, where a mismatch between photos and EDI data keeps a DG box off the ship.

Sea corridor

Asia – Baltic via the Danish straits

The Baltic is reached only through the Danish straits, where deep-draught ships are advised to take pilots, and its northern ports set ice-class restrictions every winter.

Where this route gets difficult

5 pain points from Shanghai to Trelleborg

In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Trelleborg and at customs in Sweden.

  1. Origin port

Not every Shanghai warehouse can stuff lithium DG

Shanghai MSA's 2024 draft reporting guide says warehouses that stuff lithium battery dangerous goods must provide fire-department proof of their fire hazard classification and fire-resistance rating. The site's information must also be up to date on the Shanghai single window, which took over MSA account and site records in 2026.

What Anxin does: We only propose stuffing sites that can show the fire-safety documents and are on Shanghai MSA's system; if you use your own warehouse, we check this before booking.

  2. Sea corridor

Finnish winter traffic restrictions and ice class

Each winter Finland's Transport Infrastructure Agency restricts traffic to its ports so that only ships of a given ice class and deadweight receive icebreaker assistance; exemption requests are due three working days before arrival at the latest, and Baltic restrictions appear on baltice.org. During the restriction period a feeder lacking the ice class may be refused at Trelleborg.

What Anxin does: For winter shipments we check the restrictions in force on baltice.org for Trelleborg and ask the carrier to confirm that the final feeder has the required ice class before we book.

  3. Import country

The ICS2 entry summary is due before loading in Shanghai

For Trelleborg, EU security pre-filing happens at the other end of the voyage: the ICS2 entry summary must reach the system 24 hours before the container is loaded in Shanghai. No filing means no loading, and a missing EORI number is enough to reject it.

What Anxin does: We collect the consignee's EORI number, an HS-level goods description and the house-bill parties at booking, and make sure the party filing the ENS has them before the Shanghai cut-off.

  4. Import country

    Naturvårdsverket registration since January 2026

Sweden's supplementary ordinance to the Battery Regulation (SFS 2025:813) has required battery producers to be registered with Naturvårdsverket since 1 January 2026. A producer responsibility organisation such as El-Kretsen can help with the filing, but the data remain the producer's responsibility.

What Anxin does: We ask the Swedish importer to confirm the registration is in place before booking, and pass on battery chemistry and weight data it may need for reporting.

  5. Import country

Battery label from August 2026, QR code from February 2027

The Battery Regulation's general information label applies from 18 August 2026 (or 18 months after the label implementing act, if later), and every battery needs a QR code from 18 February 2027, linked to a battery passport for EV, LMT and industrial batteries above 2 kWh. Where the battery is too small, both go on the packaging and accompanying documents.

What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Sweden importer to confirm the battery category and whether the label and QR-code elements are already on the goods, and compare carton photos with that answer.

Documents & compliance

What to have ready: Shanghai to Trelleborg

These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

Before loading in Shanghai

  • Stuffing site registered and geo-verified with Shanghai MSA; fire-safety proof for lithium DG warehouses
  • EU declaration of conformity and CE marking photo from the manufacturer
  • Importer name, trade name and postal address printed on battery or packaging
  • Annex V safety documentation confirmed for stationary storage systems
  • Substance declaration covering mercury, cadmium and lead limits

For the carrier and the voyage

  • Transhipment port, feeder operator and feeder DG acceptance named on the booking
  • In winter: feeder ice class checked against the restrictions on baltice.org
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type

For the importer in Sweden

  • Naturvårdsverket registration of the Swedish producer
  • Haulier in Sweden briefed with UN number, class 9 and tunnel code (E) for the road leg
  • Instructions and safety information in the language Sweden requires

Before you book

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Shanghai filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Sweden before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Trelleborg.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Common questions on the Shanghai → Trelleborg route

The importer's: name, registered trade name or trade mark and postal address with a contact point, on the battery or, if it is too small, on the packaging or accompanying document.

Often, but it depends on the service. The Baltic is reached through the Danish straits, and we ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and confirm DG acceptance for each vessel.

It can, but Shanghai MSA checks the phone location of the packing photos against a verified stuffing site, and sites outside Shanghai must be registered with it. We confirm registration before the stuffing date; otherwise the container can be refused for loading.
