Lithium batteries for Naantali go from factories around the Pearl River Delta through Yantian or Shekou. On the way they face a Suez-or-Cape voyage that ends with the Danish straits and the Baltic, and they arrive at the port of Naantali.

The Finnish side adds producer registration to the EU battery rules. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

  • Typhoon season Jun–Oct
  • Yantian / Shekou export
  • EU declaration of conformity
  • Finnish producer register entry
  • Finnish and Swedish safety information

Route profile

How Shenzhen → Naantali differs from other lanes

Sea corridor

Asia – Baltic via the Danish straits

The Baltic is reached only through the Danish straits, where deep-draught ships are advised to take pilots, and its northern ports set ice-class restrictions every winter.

Import country

Finland

Where this route gets difficult

5 pain points from Shenzhen to Naantali

They run from the Shenzhen terminal through the voyage to Naantali and the Finland import file.

  1. Origin port

    Cut-offs in Shenzhen's typhoon weeks

June to October is the regional tropical cyclone season according to the Hong Kong Observatory, peaking July to September. Because DG boxes need approved MSA filings and a signed packing certificate before loading, a gate closure or rolled vessel in those weeks can move the entire document chain to another sailing.

What Anxin does: From June to October we build slack into the stuffing date, confirm the DG cut-off with the carrier the week before loading, and resubmit filings promptly if the vessel changes.

  2. Sea corridor

Ice-class restrictions in the northern Baltic

Every winter Finland's Transport Infrastructure Agency sets traffic restrictions for its ports: only ships of a stated ice class and deadweight get icebreaker assistance. Exemption requests must be in at least three working days before arrival, and the restrictions for the Baltic are published on baltice.org. A feeder without the right ice class may not be allowed to call at Naantali in the restriction period.

What Anxin does: For winter shipments we check the restrictions in force on baltice.org for Naantali and ask the carrier to confirm that the final feeder has the required ice class before we book.

  3. Import country

The ICS2 entry summary is due before loading in Shenzhen

Sea cargo for the EU needs a complete Entry Summary Declaration under ICS2 Release 3, and for deep-sea containers it is due 24 hours before loading at the departure port. Carriers apply 'no manifest, no load', and a filing without a valid EORI number is rejected, so a data gap in Shenzhen leaves the box on the quay.

What Anxin does: We collect the consignee's EORI number, an HS-level goods description and the house-bill parties at booking, and make sure the party filing the ENS has them before the Shenzhen cut-off.

  4. Import country

The importer's name and address on the battery

A battery entering Finland has to identify its importer: name, registered trade name or trade mark, postal address and a contact point belong on the battery itself, or on the packaging or accompanying document when the battery is too small. That text is fixed at the factory, not at Naantali.

What Anxin does: We pass the Finland importer's name and address block to the manufacturer before the goods are packed in China and check carton or battery photos for it before loading.

  5. Import country

Due diligence on battery raw materials from August 2027

Regulation (EU) 2025/1561 pushed the Battery Regulation's due diligence duties for cobalt, lithium, nickel and natural graphite back to 18 August 2027 and gave the Commission until 26 July 2026 for its guidelines. Buyers in Finland are already collecting the supply-chain information they will need.

What Anxin does: We pass the Finland buyer's due diligence questions to the manufacturer and keep their answers with the shipment file; the policy itself remains the producer's responsibility.

Documents & compliance

Documents to line up for Shenzhen → Naantali

Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

Before loading in Shenzhen

  • Confirmation from the carrier of the DG cut-off at Yantian or Shekou, rechecked in typhoon weeks
  • Substance declaration covering mercury, cadmium and lead limits
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing

Carrier and voyage

  • Transhipment port, feeder operator and feeder DG acceptance named on the booking
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)

For the importer in Finland

  • Label and QR-code status against the August 2026 and February 2027 dates
  • Instructions and safety information in the language Finland requires

Before you book

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Shenzhen filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Finland before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Naantali.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Questions about shipping from Shenzhen to Naantali

24 hours before the container is loaded in China, not before it reaches Naantali. Without it carriers do not load the box, and a filing without an EORI number is rejected.

Often, but it depends on the service. The Baltic is reached through the Danish straits, and we ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and confirm DG acceptance for each vessel.

Since September 2026 Dongguan Customs and Dongguan MSA share dangerous-goods packaging certificate data and act jointly against false declarations, so the packaging certificate and the MSA filing should match exactly.
