From Shenzhen to Bremerhaven, cargo moves out of Shenzhen's Yantian and Shekou terminals, crosses a voyage that may run through Suez as drawn or round the Cape, depending on the service, and is discharged at a port where dangerous goods must be in the port information system before they reach the port area.

The German side adds producer registration with stiftung ear and the EU Battery Regulation's labelling calendar. The 6 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Yantian / Shekou export
  • Typhoon season Jun–Oct
  • EU declaration of conformity
  • Electronic DG report before arrival

Route profile

What sets Shenzhen → Bremerhaven apart

Origin port

Shenzhen (Yantian / Shekou)

Pearl River Delta battery cargo, often stuffed at factories in Dongguan or Huizhou, exported through Yantian or Shekou, with a typhoon season from June to October.

Import country

Germany

EU Battery Regulation labelling and QR-code dates, stiftung ear registration under the BattDG, and an ICS2 entry summary that must exist before the box is loaded.

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Shenzhen and Bremerhaven: 6 points

Listed from loading in Shenzhen to import into Germany, each with what we do about it.

  1. Origin port

Inspected in Dongguan, loaded unopened at Yantian

A large share of Shenzhen's battery exports is stuffed inland and trucked to the quay. In a May 2026 cross-regional 'one-box' pilot, Yantian MSA and Dongguan MSA jointly inspected four battery containers at a Dongguan factory and loaded them at Yantian without reopening them, which shows that the factory inspection record is what counts at the terminal.

What Anxin does: We ask at booking whether your factory and the terminal's MSA office can use the one-box arrangement, and we have stuffing photos, the packing certificate and the DG declaration match exactly, so the container is not held for re-inspection.

  2. Sea corridor

    Container losses off South Africa

Routing round Africa takes battery boxes past the Cape. The World Shipping Council counted 576 containers lost at sea in 2024, and the South African Maritime Safety Authority estimates around 200 of them, about 35%, were lost near the Cape; in August 2024 SAMSA reported 99 boxes lost from the CMA CGM Belem off Richards Bay and 46 from the MSC Antonio off Port St Johns in winter weather.

What Anxin does: When the booking goes via the Cape, we apply the CINS stuffing checks (gaps, blocking, wall clearance) more strictly and ask for photos at every stage of packing.

  3. Destination port

Reported to the terminal before the goods enter the port area

Bremen's port ordinance requires dangerous goods to be reported electronically, through the port information system, to the handling facility or the port authority before they arrive in the port area. The ship itself sends an electronic arrival notification at least 24 hours before entering. For a class 9 container from Shenzhen the terminal's picture of the box comes from that report.

What Anxin does: We keep the dangerous-goods data on the booking final before departure and pass corrections to the carrier straight away, so the Bremerhaven report matches the container.

  4. Import country

CE marking and a declaration of conformity in the right language

Since 18 August 2024 a battery sold in the EU needs the CE marking and an EU declaration of conformity from its manufacturer. The declaration has to be available in the language Germany requires, and the importer is the one who must check both before the goods are released for sale.

What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer in China for the declaration of conformity and a photo of the CE marking on the battery or its packaging before loading, and pass them to the Germany importer. We check that the documents exist and match the goods; we do not assess conformity.

  5. Import country

Annex V testing for stationary energy storage

Stationary battery energy storage systems placed on the EU market since 18 August 2024 must be safe in normal operation, with technical documentation showing tests against the Annex V parameters, including thermal shock, short-circuit protection, over-discharge and thermal propagation. ESS buyers in Germany increasingly ask for that file before delivery.

What Anxin does: For ESS cabinets and racks bound for Germany we ask the manufacturer to confirm that the Annex V test documentation exists before booking and note the answer in the shipment file.

  6. Import country

Supply-chain due diligence moved to August 2027

The Battery Regulation's due diligence obligations on cobalt, lithium, nickel and natural graphite were postponed by Regulation (EU) 2025/1561 and now apply from 18 August 2027, with Commission guidelines due by 26 July 2026. Buyers in Germany are already asking suppliers for the supply-chain data they will need.

What Anxin does: We pass the Germany buyer's due diligence questions to the manufacturer and keep their answers with the shipment file; the policy itself remains the producer's responsibility.

Documents & compliance

Checklist for Shenzhen → Bremerhaven

Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

In Shenzhen, before the box is loaded

  • Confirmation from the carrier of the DG cut-off at Yantian or Shekou, rechecked in typhoon weeks
  • Annex V safety documentation confirmed for stationary storage systems
  • Substance declaration covering mercury, cadmium and lead limits
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)

For the shipping line

  • Routing (Suez or Cape of Good Hope) and any transhipment port stated on the booking confirmation
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)
  • Lithium battery mark (SP188 cargo) or class 9 labels and placards

At the Germany end

  • Confirmation that the battery category's OfH participation is in place (BattDG)
  • Battery Regulation label / QR-code status, and battery passport where the battery is EV, LMT or industrial above 2 kWh

Before you book

Send the file once, complete

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Shenzhen filings, the carrier booking and the Germany import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Shenzhen → Bremerhaven: questions we are asked

The CE marking on the battery and the manufacturer's EU declaration of conformity, which must be available in the language Germany requires. Both have applied since 18 August 2024.

It depends on the service. In September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sailed round the Cape of Good Hope; Sea-Intelligence put the Red Sea share for North Europe vessels at 27%. We ask the carrier to confirm the routing on the booking and quote each routing separately.

Yes, provided a certified packing inspector supervises the stuffing and signs the container packing certificate. Since May 2026 Yantian and Dongguan MSA have also piloted joint factory inspection so the container can be loaded at Yantian without reopening; we check whether your shipment can use it.
