From Tianjin to Stralsund, cargo moves out of Tianjin's Xingang terminals, crosses a long Europe voyage extended through the Danish straits into the Baltic, and is discharged at the port of Stralsund.

Germany expects the battery to be registered, labelled and pre-declared before it is loaded in China. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Bohai Bay winter ice
  • Tianjin Xingang export
  • German-language safety information
  • EU declaration of conformity
  • Consignee EORI

Route profile

How Tianjin → Stralsund differs from other lanes

Sea corridor

Asia – Baltic via the Danish straits

The Baltic is reached only through the Danish straits, where deep-draught ships are advised to take pilots, and its northern ports set ice-class restrictions every winter.

Import country

Germany

EU Battery Regulation labelling and QR-code dates, stiftung ear registration under the BattDG, and an ICS2 entry summary that must exist before the box is loaded.

Where this route gets difficult

5 pain points from Tianjin to Stralsund

Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Stralsund and the Germany market.

  1. Origin port

Document review time at Tianjin and the cut-off

In July 2026 Tianjin MSA acknowledged that long document reviews under its traditional model often caused firms to miss the vessel's document cut-off, leaving cargo in port for another ship. The new appointment-based green channel, more than 50% faster with a fixed document list, is for new-energy-vehicle cargo; battery shipments should not count on it.

What Anxin does: We submit the cargo report with the full document set (safe-carriage declaration, SDS, packing certificate, packaging certificate) days before the cut-off rather than on the day, and treat any MSA query as same-day work.

  2. Sea corridor

The Asia leg decides Suez or the Cape

Up to the Danish straits the voyage matches North Europe's: Sea-Intelligence put Red Sea routing at 27% for North Europe services in September 2026, so most containers still sail round the Cape of Good Hope, where SAMSA estimates about 35% of the containers lost in 2024 went overboard.

What Anxin does: We quote the Suez and Cape routings separately when both are offered and apply the CINS stuffing checks strictly on Cape sailings.

  3. Import country

ICS2 entry summary before loading, not before arrival

EU pre-arrival security filing moved to ICS2 Release 3: sea cargo needs a complete Entry Summary Declaration, and forwarders issuing house bills of lading have had to file or pass house-level data since 1 April 2025. For deep-sea containers the ENS is due 24 hours before loading at the departure port, and carriers apply 'no manifest, no load'. A missing EORI number is enough for the filing to be rejected.

What Anxin does: We collect the consignee's EORI number, a goods description at HS level and the house-level parties at booking, and make sure they reach whoever files the ENS ahead of the Tianjin loading cut-off.

  4. Import country

The importer's name and address on the battery

A battery entering Germany has to identify its importer: name, registered trade name or trade mark, postal address and a contact point belong on the battery itself, or on the packaging or accompanying document when the battery is too small. That text is fixed at the factory, not at Stralsund.

What Anxin does: We pass the Germany importer's name and address block to the manufacturer before the goods are packed in China and check carton or battery photos for it before loading.

  5. Import country

Mercury, cadmium and lead limits in portable batteries

Annex I of the Battery Regulation caps mercury at 0.0005 %, cadmium at 0.002 % and lead at 0.01 % by weight in portable batteries, and the lead limit has applied since 18 August 2024. Market surveillance in Germany can ask the importer to show that the goods meet these limits.

What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer for its substance declaration or test report reference and file it with the shipping documents for the Germany importer; we do not test batteries.

Documents & compliance

Documents to line up for Tianjin → Stralsund

Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

In Tianjin, before the box is loaded

  • EU declaration of conformity and CE marking photo from the manufacturer
  • Importer name, trade name and postal address printed on battery or packaging
  • Annex V safety documentation confirmed for stationary storage systems
  • Substance declaration covering mercury, cadmium and lead limits
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report

Carrier and voyage

  • Transhipment port, feeder operator and feeder DG acceptance named on the booking
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)

At the Germany end

  • Consignee EORI number and the party filing the ICS2 entry summary
  • Producer / authorised representative for Germany and the Batt-Reg.-Nr. DE for each brand and battery category
  • Confirmation that the battery category's OfH participation is in place (BattDG)

Before you book

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Tianjin filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Germany before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Stralsund.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Common questions on the Tianjin → Stralsund route

The registration is needed before the batteries are first made available on the German market, by whoever is the producer for that market. A company without a German establishment has to act through one authorised representative in Germany, and since 2026 each battery category must also be covered by an approved OfH. Shipping can start earlier, but goods without a valid registration cannot be sold in Germany once they arrive, so we ask for the registration number at booking.

Often, but it depends on the service. The Baltic is reached through the Danish straits, and we ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and confirm DG acceptance for each vessel.

The green channel Tianjin MSA announced in July 2026 is for new-energy-vehicle cargo. For battery containers we plan on the normal review and file early, because Tianjin MSA has said long reviews under the traditional model often cost firms their vessel cut-off.
